all the debate about running more .. passing too much

take a look at our offensive lineman and I think you could argue that not a single one of them would start at many other power 5 programs .. not a single one

is there even an honorable mention all conference performer on that unit?

We have had an outstanding O-lineman here and there over the years, but I really can't remember the last season where the OL was a bragging point. Early Solich years...maybe?? It was incredibly weak during the first years of Callahan, when Seppo was the star. Too bad - that used to be a given (a solid O-line). If run-blocking is more simple and those maulers easier to 'manufacture', I would just as soon go back to option football and have a unique and physical identity to rally around. Being competitive (top 25), with the occasional run at/in the top 10 with a legit shot at conference champ would be dynamite compared to the last several years.

pass happy crowd won't allow it

I don't harbor any illusions about NU having the components of a great running game, and I agree that the offensive line is awful. My issue with the offensive game plan is that there seems to be a point in every game (Minnesota being the single exception) at which we hold up a giant cardboard sign that says "WE'RE ONE DIMENSIONAL - NOT GONNA WASTE ANY MORE TIME RUNNING THE BALL!"

And Nebraska isn't good enough in the passing game to survive as a one-dimensional offense. The only team with a pulse they've beaten this year is Minnesota, and that was with the most balanced attack they've used the whole season. I'm not asking NU to be a run-only team - but at least pretend to be mildly interested in establishing a running game, and it will help the passing attack.

Purdue is one of the worst run defenses in the country. I haven't looked at any of the stats, but it sure looked like we weren't having a bunch of trouble getting a push or an opening for the RB. Unfortunately, our starter just cannot make good decisions when he is running. We should have been able to run all day on them. I think we could have. We just have a coaching staff that cannot make that kind of commitment.
