I understand the rationale by Coach Cav for only playing the 5 starters on the O-line, but I really think it will hurt recruiting and hurt the development of those players who are not starting. If I'm an O-line recruit, and I see that I won't play unless I'm a starter (possibly until I'm a junior or senior), I'm not sure I would come to Nebraska. I TOTALLy get competition, but I disagree with not at least rotating various guys in for a series or 2 throughout the game (especially if the 2nd stringers are close in talent).

Thoughts?

Puzzling to say the least. And yes, if I was a 2nd teamer and got zero PT, I'd be looking around. It's not like these guys are setting the world on fire in the first place.

I agree 100%. I am sure our current commits and potential recruits are taking notice. Other schools might use that against us as well. Isn't it important to develop talent at all positions? We have had players replaced this season based on performance. What might be even scarier is that we don't have anyone that can push the current starters on the offensive line. :(

Also it seems like if you are trying to build unity and cohesion, you have five people involved and everyone else gets to watch....not much to build on there....

I can't imagine the 2nd string guys are that motivated to play since the likelyhood that they will take an offensive snap appears to be low.

Definitely one of the most puzzling and frustrating things about this staff. It simply makes no sense to me.

Especially when the OLine has been very inconsistent anyway. How on earth does an OLine coach come into a situation and say "I'm going to play just 5 guys?" Just doesn't make any sense.

Really don't like this philosophy at all. Zero motivation for starters or backups!
