Do you still want to hate on our D?

They put us in position to win. This is on the O. Let's get behind this team and all the positives. We can play some great football. Don't see why the West cannot be ours.

Yep. Oregon scored off of 2 turnovers and a stupid penalty that negated a first down in the first half. That's 21 points. We got 2 turnovers and a drive extended due to a penalty in the 2nd half and only scored twice. There's your differnce.

I do think the D should have been better in the 1st half, but they were put in some no win situations early, and they really stepped up and played lights out to give the offense a chance in the 2nd half. Props to the D, they gave us a chance.

that 2nd half gave me some hope that's for sure. I sure as heck was concerned after last week and the first half. We'll see.

Wish it hadn't taken until the 2nd half and 42 points though to adjust to what Oregon was doing. I didn't get to watch hardly any of the 2nd half but that 1st half was ugly. Regardless, it at least gives me hope that the staff is capable of making the correct adjustments, just wish it hadn't been after 42 points had been scored.

Oh so the 42 points in the first didn't happen? I admire you glass half full demeanor, but let's not act like the defense should be placed as world beaters because of the 2nd half. I too was impressed with the 2nd half defense, but let's see what happens going forward.

At least we know our DC can and will make adjustments. This was a learning experience for our players and not all that unexpected IMO. I think it was Carriiker that said on the radio this week that he expected there to be some hiccups this year in the switch to the 3-4. The 2nd half was very encouraging from me from a defensive standpoint.

21 of those 42 are on the offense. That second TD was because Morgan didn't catch a pass he should have caught. It got tipped, and the Oregon Offense started at their own 39. They had just scored, and got a TO on the very first play from scrimmage for NU. That's a losing position for any defense, I don't care who they are. Then another INT around midfield and a penalty that negated a 4th down conversion. All 3 of those gave Oregon great field position, and they converted. I don't know the state, but I'm guessing there was a pretty significant difference between Oregon's 1st half average starting field position and their 2nd half average. I'm guessing the 1st have was close to the 50. I'm guessing 2nd half was inside the 20. That's a HUGE difference for the defense. While I certainly think the D could have, and should have played better in the 1st half, they played well enough to put us in a position to win. The offense just didn't convert when given the opportunity. The O had a golden opportunity to tie the game up, when the defense forced Oregon to a 3 and out with 2:47 to play. Then Lee immediately throws a pick. You can't put that on the D. You can't put this one on the Defense.

We didn't make adjustments. Oregon let off the gas and stopped running what was working in the 1st half. Oregon was still gashing us for big plays in the second half and a lot of times their drives ended due to their own mistakes.

Kind of hard to say the D "put us in a position to win" because they "only" allowed 42 points or the 42 they allowed were all in the first half. Giving up 42 for a game does not put your team in a position to win. It puts you in a position to lose.

Jesus. you have no clue do you?

The only positive takeaway from the game is that the team played with effort and showed heart in the second half. This isn't a good football team, and we shouldn't try to pretend that it is.

Yes Oregon ran the ball more in the 2nd half but their RB is a beast. If Diaco and our D didn't improve or adjust, they'd have scored 70 on us just by running. Defense did a great job in the 2nd half containing him and the run game. And yes, when they did throw our secondary was in much better position then they were in the first.

You may see it as Ducks "taking a conservative approach" but you could also see that the D played much better. Do you believe Ducks didn't want to score in the 2nd half? And to say the Ducks stopped themselves some is probably true but our offense did the same all day. And trust me, the D made plays in the 2nd. Not everything was handed to them. Not all of those were due to Ducks "giving it to us" Also their offense was ridiculously lucky in the first. But opportunity is needed for luck and the shirts took away that opportunity in the 2nd.

When the game ended, I had no doubt our defense was much better than theirs. When the game ended I saw this team will be unbelievably better at the end of the season. The team, especially the D, never gave up and if you don't see that as an improvement to what's been here over the last 5 years, then your just a sad person and I can't help you.

I give our kids all the credit for 2nd half turnaround on D. It wasn't Diaco or Oregon laying of the gas. It was all heart! Hopefully they'll now realize what kinda effort it takes to be a Blackshirt. It was a tough matchup for young kids learning a new scheme. Looking forward I think we'll do much better vs Big 10 teams.
