NW week PC Notes- Rahmir coming back for 6th year. Reimer back

I don’t see how Washington can come back after playing in six games this year.
Only 3 games as a freshman in 2019 and COVID year in 2020. I guess that’s why he might get a sixth year? But who can figure out all these rules now that NIL is an enticement to encourage. some of these guys to play forever.😀

According to the Nebraska website linked below, Washington played in 11 games in 2019, 7 games in 2020 (which doesn't count because it's the COVID year), 12 games in 2021, 12 games in 2022 and 6 games in 2023.

I like that he admits the program is not in good shape rather than blowing smoke up our asses. I’m starting to get a better feeling out of this team. We take care of NW and they are going to start believing they can win the rest.

Agree with all this and would add to #3 … no fumbles.

Also - great to see you embracing the press conference - Rhule starting to show you he does what he says 😁
didn't listen.

what's he saying?

“For now” isn’t exactly a guarantee on the QB depth chart. HH needs to clean up the mistakes or it sounds to me like somebody else will get a shot. Too many near misses on badly thrown balls and balls on the turf. Hope he can clean it up.
first time he's committed to a starter since the opener

I didn't hear the context, but he's been hemming and hawing about who's starting at QB for 4 straight games

if you believe he's doing what he says and not just preaching, seems significant

sucks for you.

DC Coach Tony White Northwestern Press Conference Notes -The feel after the goal line stand on 4th & 1 is that they could now do anything -Anytime the defense ran on the field after that, they were "geeked up" -There was no worry in play calling after the goal line stand -Replicate those situations in practice -Luke Reimer is feeling good but had to get back into the right mindset -Coach Rhule is always looking for ways to do things 1% better when talking about moving players around in different positions -Everything in the program starts with the head man -Coach Rhule wants to be eye-to-eye with everyone -Really easy to follow an example when Coach Rhule sets the tone like that -Riley Van Poppel is stepping up and his role will increase -When guys get the chance to play, their retention is higher -Jimari, Javin, John Bullock always had a lot of potential, and with this coaching staff they've had the chance to show their potential -Phalen Sanford earned his Blackshirt, along with Jimari Butler and Nick Henrich -"We want to be one of the top defensive teams in the country, period." -12 total Blackshirts, Luke retained his even through the injury -"Flabbergasted" that Quinton Newsome only has one INT -Hopes that he broke the seal (so to speak)

OC Coach Marcus Satterfield Northwestern Press Conference Notes -Heinrich Haarberg continues to develop and get better -Ty Hahn has been crucial because he knows and can play every position -Bye week was handled different than Coach Satt was used to, but was one of the best bye weeks he's ever been a part of -Different in the level of detail and competition -Anthony Grant is one of the most talented RB's in the league, had a good week, but needs to hold on to the ball -Heinrich Haarberg fits the mold of the way we want to play football right now -"You have to have the guts and the nerve to go 3 & Out sometimes" -Trust the defense to make a play -Maintain the mindset of not beating ourselves -Younger receivers have to step up -"Very pleased with the Offensive Line" -A lot of times sacks aren't the fault of the OL, can be attributed to RPO's instead -Great camaraderie in the football building right now -Jeff Sims is one of the main leaders on our team -He coaches the other QB's, great teammate -Single digit adds a layer of responsibility to those guys to look to lead the team -Developing an offensive strategy is "so much fun" -May not be high flying scoring 80 points a game, YET -These guys (players & coaches) don't care about stats, just want to win -Going to adapt to the players we have -Players trust the process and the vision -Coach Satt says he may have "more grey hairs, less sleep", it's not always pretty but it's a fun process nonetheless

First off, thanks OP for doing these. You're the man.

Second, I love Rhule's quote about Nebraska football's problem being "the big picture" and to just focus on this week. It reminds me of a quote from TO in the 1996 season after the loss to Arizona State, which was like the first regular season loss since Iowa State in 1992.

Everyone was freaking out. Both the national media and the local media were peppering TO with questions about the season and what the loss meant for Husker football, overreaction stuff. And TO said, "We need to just be a good football team first." End of sermon. That was it.

So many coaches since he's retired haven't gotten that. Let fans and the media focus on 4 and 5 star recruits and run the damn ball and this, that and the other. But as a coach, just focus on being a good football team. It sounds dumb but, I mean...that's literally it. Just focus on the week. Nothing else matters. Just playing good ball on Saturday and hopefully come out with a win.

I'm still not high on Rhule but I like what he said there, and I like that he's sticking with HH. Beat Northwestern!

Yeah I think I’ll tell my wife that she’ll do “FOR NOW”. 🙄

1. What will it take for you to warm up to Rhule?

2. Who did you want instead of Rhule?

Just being curious, not critical.
1. Bowl eligibility. Don't even care if they win it. Just making a bowl would be a massive improvement. Winning it is gravy. Then they have to carry that momentum over into the next year.

Cleaning up a lot of the mental mistakes from week to week would also warm me up to him. NU used to be known as one of the most disciplined teams in college football, but that hasn't been the case in quite some time.

2. I really didn't have a preference but I liked Mickey Joseph. We admittedly dodged a bullet by not hiring him, though.
