If we are running back U, then why can't we recruit any top flight runners?

Some would tell you because we havent shown an offense that features the RB and when we show we are capable of a RB putting up numbers in our current offense we will attract more top flight runners.

Personally I think that is horse crap and a cop out. I watched our previous staff(which i hate fwiw) sign top flight WR talent like Westy,Moore,Enunwa etc without a showing shit as far as WRs doing big things in our offense..

Im of the opinion that great recruiters can get great players to your university. IMO our RB coach while a great coach IMHO is an average at best recruiter.

I could be wrong but i think its that simple. IMO Keith or Dontae Williams could have us with a top flight RB yearly. Its all about recruiting iyam but again who knows.

NFL Draft Picks - Part 2 (1936-60)

Lamont Epp‏@lrepp33 Apr 25
Lamont Epp Retweeted Pick Six Previews

#GBR has had 3 or more players drafted in every #NFLDraft but one (2013) since 1963. #Pipeline #ProBigRed #Huskershttps://twitter.com/PickSixPreviews/status/856939175857278977…

Lamont Epp added,

What about 1969?

Far as I know, I only played against one of them in High School.

The text was just offset a bit

It still only says 2 players though in parenthesis after the year...

I just looked on wiki as well for the info and found it was only those two players listed, so the tweet should have said 3 or more players drafted since 1970 (unless there is some other player that isn't listed for some reason).

I'm not that into recruiting, but I think we've had several running backs drafted who weren't "top flight" coming out of high school. I think you could go through that list and see several who weren't as highly ranked as some running backs we've recruited in the last five years. Or, are you just looking at a window of the last two years or so?

Looking at the Riley time period. We have not recruited a difference maker at running back since Ameer left. We have good running backs. But none of them has really stood out or separated themselves from the others. Maybe someone will this year. I hope so. We sure seem to be attracting great QB's and receivers. But there seems little interest in NU right now by any stud running backs

It's just like any other position. The higher ranked guys you get, the better chance you have they'll be stars. Not a coincidence fournette, cook, mixon were 5 stars and mccaffrey, kamara were both top 100 4 stars and are likely the first 5 backs taken.

I think it is a little early to rule out Bryant as a difference maker. The kid is very talented and I will be surprised if Ozigbo doesn't eventually at least get a look in the NFL. Wilbon has the physical potential to make plays and it will be interesting to see if he does this year. IMO, Riley and Langsdorf look at their RBs in much the same way that NFL teams do and aren't worried about a guy racking up a thousand yards. Our RBs are going to look better IF our line stays healthy this year.

Not ruling anyone out as a potential difference maker. I hope one of these guys steps up and gets it done. I based my comments on what has been achieved so far, not on what they might still do.

Hope Bryant or Wilbon can really emerge. I doubt Ozigbo has the speed
