Amite wide receiver Devonta Smith picked August 15 for his decision date, with four schools in play for the five-star prospect.

The talented, 6-1, 170-pound receiver has been a hot commodity for some time, and is ready to focus on the next chapter of his life.

"I'm ready to put this process behind me," Smith said. "Honestly, I just looked at a calendar, closed my eyes and picked a date. I want to get it over before my senior season and I have a visit to Miami scheduled later this month, which should help me in my decision. I plan on taking all five of my official visits regardless, though."

Smith's list of favorites has changed quite a bit throughout the recruiting process, as is the case with most prospects. He feels confident in his final four, though.

"I'm basically down to four schools," Smith said. "Mississippi State, Miami, Nebraska and Alabama. All of those schools have a lot to offer me, and have done a good job recruiting me."

Smith went on to explain why each school appeals to him. Nebraska: "Coach (Keith) Williams is one of the best there is in the business. He's a great position coach and I feel like I could be that missing piece to help them get on top again."

We better start putting some collection jars in bars across the state for a bonuses for Coach W so $$$$ never becomes an issue. People are going to be looking to take him away.

They already are. He just got a big raise and his kid is here so he will probably be here awhile. I think the NFL may try to lure him away but I think he likes teaching college kids too much and giving them the tools to make it to the NFL.

Definitely hope you're right..he represents the University well in many different ways.

I remember being skeptical of his hire and of Hank Hughes's hires (I mean, I was nervous about bringing so many Oregon State coaches here to begin with, but still). Boy was I wrong to doubt Williams. This guy knows how to coach, and knows how to use social media to promote the hell out of the program. It's amazing.

Turns out Hughes actually did kinda suck, though.

Guessing its not that Hughes isn't a good coach. He came in on a strong recommendation(s,
Guessing the main thing with current players is he didn't bond, from player or other inferences.
Guessing he didn't want to give up as much time for recruiting as N is intent on.
WE want to set the pace and be the best and innovative; from the AD and through all departments, many don't want to give up what it takes to be in the top few percent. His results became reflective, and it was mutually agreed. He will be a good coach somewhere. This is no longer a fiefdom you go to; to act like some old or Carl it

I don't really understand the I want to commit and get this thing behind me strategy when he's gonna take all five visits anyway but more power to him. Would love to get his commitment initially but if not hopefully we get one of those officials and get him to sign when it matters.

If I was in this position and had a ton of offers I would absolutely take all 5 visits just to see some pretty sweet football and get all the perks that comes with the campus visits

I kinda understand it. IMO, these kids think that by committing to a school, that it will take the pressure off of them. That the constant phone calls, letters and texts will stop. There is a huge pressure from these schools to commit somewhere. It is a huge amount of pressure. I saw it this last year with my so, on a smaller scale. The schools would offer and then pressure to commit. I could see it wearing on him. Hell, it wore on me too. He was pretty irritable for a while. I couldn't imagine if the pressure was coming from schools like Alabama, USC, Nebraska, Florida, etc.

I get it, I'd take all of my visits too but those teams aren't gonna stop calling if you tell them you're visiting in October whether you verbally commit to them or someone else.
