NU has a new QB commitment

I was friends of a friend of a walk on QB when I was at NU, so this post hits close to home.

He was obviously a pretty spare player, but even he had enough pull that we could skip the lines and get free drinks at the Rail whenever we went out with him. Sooooo...yeah...that was pretty kickass CSB

So what has happened to the other QB from Ioway we were heavily recruiting?

Just the kind of talent that we need to get to the vaunted 6 wins that we have so desperately been yearning for all of these years. Go Skers!

Maybe I'm missing some kind of sarcasm but this is a walk-on offer. What is the downside?

To be quite honest, schools like NDSU and even maybe SDSU have run circles around us with regard to finding qb's.

Walk ons are an easy target. I’ll never understand denigrating a walk on’s ability when he chooses to pass up scholarships from lesser programs to join the Huskers. The walk on program has been all about giving kids a chance to mature and develop. We end up with a starter or two it seems out of almost every walk on class. There have plenty of NFL QBs from small schools who were spurned by major college programs.

My feelings exactly. I know not a lot of walk on's turn into starters percentage wise but when they do, I'm always very excited for an underdog being able to prove all of his know-it-all critics wrong.

No idea if NDSU was recruiting him but it appears SDSU may have. I'm not sure I would call either of those schools lesser at this point in time. Both would probably beat us regularly.

. Sounds about right. He’ll win 6 in a row after the vaunted 4 star scholarship kid goes 2-3 and gets benched.
soooo let me get this straight, because it honestly seems like you argue this opinion a lot--
you're saying that we're better off with lesser talent? I mean it seems like the athletic department is right there with ya...

Let me jump in. I think we are better off with MORE talent. Adding a walk-on qb who apparently has some P5 interest but is otherwise FCS caliber is nothing but a win. How could anyone see it otherwise? What is the downside? You like other walk-on qbs more and he took that spot?

Some people just need to bitch about everything, huh? Go Skers!

It's a freaking walk on.
I don’t think he was bitching. I think his post was probably frustration over the lowering of the bar for our QBs and team. It just came off wrong.

Okay, maybe my post was harsh so @cavalot I apologize. I doubt he cares. I just think Rhule is taking a lot of heat 6 games into trying to raise the Titanic from the floor of the seabed. We're 3-3 and heading into a stretch of very winnable games. I'm excited and I'm trying to take Coach Rhule's advice to enjoy the ride and NOT just fixate on where we should be 2-3 years from now. When I see someone insinuating that Rhule taking a walk on means that he's ok with below-average talent across the board or that any of us are ok with winning 6 games... that's just a ridiculous post.

And in the past we've lost walk on offers to their scholarship offers. Absolutely zero downside to this
This kids offers were Souix falls and Wayne state and Midland. He was never getting a scholarship to A FCS .

And what level do you think those schools are? They are FCS.
Right exactly my point. IN THE PAST, we were losing walk on offers to their scholarship offers which really blows. Hopefully we've gotten off rock bottom from that is my point.

Should we wasted scholarship 🤔. Absolutely not but walk on offer Absolutely

hmmm P5-caliber starter goes down and FCS-caliber backup? I mean we kinda have FCS-caliber backups right now. And this is what it looks like... wanting more talent @ arguably the most important position.

I'm just amused how people continually say they'd rather develop 2/3-star talent than see the Athletic Dept pay for 4/5-star talent and develop THAT. Sure you're gonna have some that don't stick, but name a better metric for success coming outta HS. There isn't one, especially now that 'watching film' in earnest in the recruiting process has become 'old-school'. If there's ANYTHING that could replace Stars, it's probably that. But generally there's not.

Most 5* goto the NFL. Fact. More 4* than lesser go on to play pro.

IMHO we'd be a more competitive team with NFL-caliber players on our team, something that COINCIDENTALLY we've been lacking, AT THE SAME TIME our teams have generally sucked balls. Weird how that works.

Pay some players = more competitive team. Relying on what we currently have and having shown no signs of changing = status quo. Bowl games (mid-to-low tier) here and there.

He’s a walk on. We need a walk on QB or two if for no other reason than to run scout team and drills

IF it turned out he developed in to a guy on the 4 deep, great. If not he helps the team. It’s all a win for us.

I'll buy that. point taken.

Its called being a cynic. It really has nothing to do with Rhule and more to do with a fan base that gets excited over a walk on qb that isn't going to do anything more than what we already have at this point in the QB room.

The sarcasm/irony hits a chord when we are all wishing for 6 wins....when just a decade ago 9-10 wasn't enough. Hell 20 years ago 11 wasn't enough. I'm sure that Rhule isn't ok with 6 wins.....but I know this fan base is simply hoping for a bowl game. LOL....just let that soak in for a moment.

Yes sarcasm with a hint of cynicism.

LOL pie in the sky thinking. or maybe your being facetious. Either way...it really won't matter.
