Notre Dame

This is the worst Duke football team in probably 4-5 years so I'm pleasantly surprised they're still in it. After the Wake Forest and Northwestern games, I just assumed Notre Dame would win by 40.

Lol Duke won!!! So unexpected and happy. After how the Blue Devils played against Wake and Northwestern, I honestly thought they'd be lucky to win another game this season. This is awesome!!!

Syracuse, NC state, Stanford, miami, navy, army. Virginia Tech and USC left for the Irish. I see 3 loses for sure. Hope they lose them all. But will take 4 just to see them out of the bowl games.

Nobody ever explained why there is so much hate for notre dame, all I can come up with is 3 reasons just from observation over time.

1. roman catholic protestant thing?
2. noter dame uses schools like creighton prep as a farm school system
3. noter dame gets special tv deals

I don't really like or dislike noter dame, and I'm a presbyterian high calvinist. but half my family are roman catholics. so it must not be religion.

I remember Dr. Tom losing a few prep players to ND, but nothing that was a huge impact.

so it must be the special tv deal. but even there I can think of a orange cow that got a special tv deal, that was a lot more irritating to me.

the only other thing I can think of is jim lamprey used to give ivy league scores first, (is noter dame ivy league?) before the actual top 20 scores.

It's not just the TV deal. They get special treatment from the NCAA also. Honestly it probably comes back to envy.

I like Notre Dame, but can't stand their coach. So I'm conflicted on their suckiness.

I am right there with you. I grew up liking ND, still do to an extent, but their last two coaches have been complete D-Bags! Why does it seem like most of the coaches in football these days have to be arrogant pricks.

For me, it is that they are constantly overvalued. Every year they get all this hype and rankings and air time and they rarely live up to justify half of it. I am just so tired of the coverage of how great they are.

Remember Tebow in his last year at Florida? Good guy, deserving of praise. But the media went 24/7 coverage of him, I got annoyed and now I can't stand him. Similar deal for ND.

I have always hated them. I liked Lou Holtz. My 1st Lt played on the DL for Notre Dame. He had some cool stories. But yeah they are independent. Always on CBS.

The preferential treatment for Notre Dame is why I tire of them. And the TV deal issue is a BIG deal when you stop to consider the era before conference networks and games being televised every week. NBC has broadcast ND games for years, even in a time when Nebraska would have 3 games televised per year... How is that fair to the rest of college football? If you want to be on TV each week, go to Notre Dame...

When the BCS series was initiated, it was P5 conferences + ND. That's stupid to me... If ND wanted a part of the pie, join a conference. This year they were top 10 before the year started, and now are 1-3... Why are they given so much preferential treatment?

That's it for me too, and it's been going on as long as I can remember. It's like they are the only program in the country that doesn't have to prove how great they are year after year. They are hyped up year after year solely because they are Notre Dame. They haven't won a national championship since 1988, yet nobody from the media ever suggests their fans live in the past. No program is propped up by media hype more than they are. That's why so many people love to see when reality interferes with the media worship at the feet of Touchdown Jesus.

Well at least NBC has finally pushed most of the Notre Dame games to NBCSN a bit of a downgrade for them not being on a big four network every week. I guess those ratings finally took a hit after all the years of mediocrity. I still am proud of the day the Husker faithful turned the Notre Dame road game into a home game!

Since you asked, my beef with them is primarily with their fans.

They LITERALLY have their own farm system which is not something that others schools enjoy. Which is just fine, and something they have worked hard to build. But if you listen to their fans, they have some huge recruiting disadvantage due to self-imposed admissions restrictions. All the while maintaining their own farm system which is a huge advantage nobody else has. it's laughable.
