Notre Dame upset by VA Tech

And Kansas beat Texas for their first real win in a lonnnngggg time. Charlie Strong may not get to finish the season.

The curse of 2009 continues to haunt Texas.

Chattanooga leads Alabama....just sayin'

Notre Dame was favored by 1-2 points and the game was at Notre Dame.
And they brought out the Irish Guard.

If they end up 5-7, could they get into a bowl game the same way we did last year? Or would they be too proud to accept it?

(If the bowl games weren't filled like last year)

Not going to a bowl game is really going to hurt Notre Dame's playoff chances.
TV execs will still try to get them in - possibly tripling the money they pay them separately ; don't worry, their conference will save them - oops

Norte Dame losing is a beautiful thing to behold. May it continue forever...

And it should be pointed out that other than the one year in the Kelly era where they played Bama for the title and got crushed, Norte Dame has not been nationally relevant since around 1993. Their asshole fan base drove Holtz out of town and they have lived to regret it. And they have been irrelevant despite getting tons of good recruits every year.

I wonder how much longer NBC is going to be their waterboy?

Last season they were a field goal as time expired away thanksgiving weekend at Stanford from very likely going to the playoff, their other loss being by 2 to Clemson in a monsoon. Throwing out an undefeated season and nc appearance, we'd kill to have one of those. I know people hate Notre Dame but in the Kelly era they've been much more relevant than we have.

I did not say that we have been more relevant than ND. I am merely pointing out that they have been contenders for the national title exactly once since 1993. And in the vast, vast majority of those seasons they weren't even close.

I was going to argue against your point, but you are pretty much correct :)

I do not like Notre Dame and wish them nothing but bad luck.. probably because they get more attention and ranked higher than they deserved some years (IMHO).

Notre Dame Record:

2010 8-5 (Kelly's first year)
2011 8-5
2012 12-1 (Finished in Top 10)
2013 9-4
2014 8-5
2015 10-3 (Finished in Top 10) (Started 10-1 but lost their last 2 games)
2016 4-7

Nebraska Record:
2010 10-4 (Pelini's 3rd year)
2011 9-4
2012 10-4
2013 9-4
2014 9-4
2015 6-7 (Riley)
2016 9-2

ND Since Kelly: 59-30 .663 Win% Two years with less than 4 losses.
NU Same Years: 62-29 .681 Win% Zero years with less than 4 losses.

Notre Dame has finished 2 years with a better record than Nebraska.
Nebraska has finished 4 years with a better record than Notre Dame.

Notre Dame's best year by far beats Nebraska's best year.
Notre Dame finished in the Top 10 twice in that span. Nebraska has not finished in the Top 15 in that span.

Nebraska has been more consistent, but has not been relevant in the BCS or Playoff picture at the end of the of year during Kelly's time in South Bend.

During that span, Notre Dame was relevant in the BCS era once (2012) and was relevant in the Playoff picture up to Thanksgiving in 2015.

Nebraska fans would have loved to be in the BCS National Championship Game one time during that span.

Yes yes yes. They had their one glory year under Kelly, but then got trashed by Bama. And yes, we would love to have had that year. But guess what? We did. In 2001. My point was not to compare NU to ND. The point, as noted by many ND fans over on their board, is that other than one or two years, ND has been TOTALLY irrelevant since 1993. And that is a fact. And what makes that doubly shameful is that their recruiting has been excellent. They are the private school version of Texas

Yeah it makes no difference to me, I just think it's interesting the last time we even won our division was the year they got to the champ game. And we got thrashed worse by Wisconsin in the big ten champ than they did by Bama. I think in this day and age unless you have Meyer, Saban or harbaugh the nd model might be our best case. Every 3 or 4 years have enough talent that if things bounce your way you have a good shot to make the playoff. You're not gonna be consistently top 5 or 10 unless you're one of maybe 4 or 5 programs.
