Spent the morning at Omaha Central where the Eagles were playing 7-on-7 against Millard North. Nebraska commits Caden VerMaas and Pierce Mooberry played both ways for Millard North while 2027 Nebraska running back target Kylonn Haynie competed for the Eagles. 2027 Omaha Central safety Tory Pittman III was in attendance but held out of action, looks to be nursing a minor injury

*** Nebraska three-star defensive back commit Caden VerMaas looked really smooth in coverage. Very natural in zone, drops with ease and covers a lot of ground quickly. One of the vocal leaders of Millard North's defense, he took on some of the tougher matchups 1-on-1 in the early portion of the matchup. In man coverage he's patient and plays with good eyes, consistently sticking on the hip of the receiver he was guarding. Offensively he's a change-of-pace running back for the Mustangs.

*** Caught up with VerMaas ahead of his (and Mooberry's) official visit this weekend. The two are really excited to be back on campus and hopes to add some new members to the class coming out of the weekend. Quiet as it's kept, VerMaas might be Nebraska's best peer recruiter in the 2025 class. He's working on four-star linebackers Christian Jones and Dawson Merritt, has good relationships with both, as well as three-star linebacker Will Hawthorne.

*** What position with VerMaas play for the Huskers? He's a defensive back for sure and has his eye on the Rover spot that Isaac Gifford currently mans. For a defensive back, VerMaas prides himself on his ability to fit the run, and his willingness to come downhill and tackle. Something I didn't know until today, he has a background in MMA, which has helped his physicality and helped spark that willingness to hit. He certainly has the physical makeup to eventually fill that Rover role, added some good mass this offseason with room to still fill out. Funny enough, just from watching him run around, Isaac Gifford isn't a bad comparison for his frame and style of play.

*** Recent Nebraska three-star linebacker commit Pierce Mooberry impressed on both sides of the ball. The awareness and range I saw earlier this spring carried over today in coverage. He's really active in zone, fires downhill and laterally quickly, showed good athleticism in man, keeping up with smaller, shiftier receivers and running backs. As I've stated before, he's a legit 6-foot-4, and looked like a man amongst boys this morning. At tight end, he's a crafty route-runner for his size, and uses his frame to out-physical defensive backs. Could be the top offensive weapon for the Mustangs this fall.

*** 2027 Kylonn Haynie continues to impress every time I've seen him this offseason. Standing 5-foot-8, 190 pounds already he's moving around well for that size at a young age. Added some route-running finesse to his game this offseason and figures to be a bigger factor in Central's passing game. Between the tackles he's physical and runs with a low center of gravity and has worked on improving his top end speed to break through the third level of the defense. Got open a couple times running routes against older defensive backs with some D1 interest, says a lot about how far he's developed that aspect of his game. Really isn't hard to see why Nebraska offered so early.

*** 2025 Millard North athlete Desmond Dhaenens recently picked up an offer from North Dakota State. He's had a big offseason on the camp circuit and stopped through Nebraska earlier this month. He looked good on both sides of the ball, fascinating range and instincts especially as a defensive back. Could be one to keep an eye on as a PWO offer to Nebraska.

*** Quick recruiting note to close this off, confirmed that 2025 Gilbert (Ia.) High three-star linebacker Will Hawthorne will be officially visiting Nebraska this weekend. Coming down to Iowa State and Nebraska for the three-star.
