Yup, that was another ugly one.
Yup, it is probably going to get even uglier.
Nope, nobody would have guessed that the transition would have gone this poorly. Least of all Riley.
Yup, it feels very Callahan-esque.
Yup, I can hardly stand watching this team continue to underperform.
Yup, it is going to cost the University in sales and donations.
Yup, it might end up not working. And if it does work, it is probably not going to be with this exact staff.

And yet...
Nope, you can't fire this staff after year one. I will keep saying it. One year is not enough time to tell how a coach is going to do. Three years is enough time. It is worth waiting to see, before we create another painful disruption in the football program. So you might as well try to be supportive of the team and the staff.

It is interesting that Gary Anderson, who pretty much owned Pelini during his tenure at Wisconsin, isn't faring very well at Oregon State. Will probably wind up with 2, maybe 3 wins this year. Not every situation is a Michigan situation.

I just want to see improvement before the season is over. Give us some hope that it's not all lost. A win against MSU would do that. End the season on a high note. Without hope, this staff is done.

I'm not sure Nebraska an afford to fire Riley right now. Unfortunately.

With that said, anybody who thinks turning a 9-4 team into a 3-9 team is any indication of future success is crazy. I don't see Riley ever winning more than eight games no matter how many years he is given.

Oh how soon we forget...
I remember very well. We lost under Callahan but we were bringing in talented classes. We will be lucky to win 5 games this year and will bring in an "okay" recruiting class in terms of rankings. And recruiting is about to get harder for this staff.

How about 25 years? Is that enough years to tell how good or bad a coach will be?

But Riley has so many resources at Nebraska!

Callahan Esque sounds great at this point. That staff was kicking tail and taking names on the recruiting trail.

Another myth that needs to be diffused. He may have had some more highly ranked classes but I think Pelini's staff did a better job overall at evaluating talent. Callahan's classes were ranked higher because he took more commits. For example, BC took 32 commits in 2005 and reached on many. That class ended up with 9 guys never lettering and 6 others that only earned one letter. He also took 12(yes 12!) jucos that year. Some were good(Bowman, Cryer, Octavian) but most were busts. 2006 was better in regards to contribution %, but lacked play makers. 2007 was his highest ranked class and had 28 commits. 7 never lettered and most of the highest ranked recruits didn't live up to their ranking(Mendoza, Burkes, Murillo, Yancy, and Lawrence). The best performers were from Nebraska(Paul and Crick) or underrated(Prince, Hagg, Helu).
