Someone had a post about a punt return that led me to think about some of my most memorable plays or moments watching the Huskers. These can be good or bad plays, but ones that you will never erase from your memory.

Hopefully we'll see a few more positive memories since there has been more than our share of not so good news this past month.

For me, a few of my most memorable are:
  • Tommy Frazier's run against Miami when he had an option keeper up the middle for about 15 yards and he spins as he comes off the ground - for some reason, that run right there said "we've got you."
  • Matt Davison's flea-kicker catch against Mizzou. That was one of the first times Nebraska had to overcome adversity and comeback. When they completed the comeback, I nearly jumped through the ceiling.
  • Senior day introductions for Kenny Walker - the stadium is silent with everyone signing applause by waving their hands in the air. Will never forget that.
  • Eric Crouch lowering his shoulder over an Iowa defender and taking him into the end zone for a TD

I remember that well, or at least the replay anyway. Cable went out or they switched to a commercial, something. I don't remember exactly what, but I didn't see it live.

Mine was a Colorado game where we went house on the first play at Colorado, and right up until recently I could have told you who the RB was but now my memory sucks. Ahman Green is my best guess.. Had a private jet ride to the game, fancy hotel the night before and a great dinner all paid for, and I did it with my best bud, and afterwards we flew home right away and with a tailwind we made it in a ridiculously short amount of time. Then there was an Iowa State game way back when and I got free tickets, took my other best bud and when my boss at the time wouldn't give me the day off I quit, and we ended up being gone for a few days and I forgot to check in with my wife so she starts calling everyone we know looking for me. Damn we had an amazing time that weekend, and my wife and family eventually got over it.

It was Green. Quick pitch sweep to the left, weak side of the field. Green took it about 70 yards.

my formative Husker years were filled with memories of being heart broken by OU

2 vivid memories are from 1985 and then 1986 ... both involved that douche bag - Keith Jackson (the TE not the announcer) although the announcer was involved as well

apologies for the bad nostalgia

But my most memorable Husker play is now almost too cliche to mention: the Johnny Rodgers punt return against OU in 1971. I still remember screaming so loudly in my grandfsther's TV room in south Omaha that I lost my voice completely on the spot

TO called this too. It was a new wrinkle, and said we are going to score if they line up like he thinks they will. Welp! That happened.
The CU linebacker who covered the weak side was playing too far inside and got caught up in traffic as he tried to track Green from the inside out. Green was too fast for that approach. No doubt TO saw this on tape and called that pitch play first.

I'll limit to two...I could do MILLIONS!!!!
*My first game ever in Memorial...1978 OU game...enough said.
*2009 Big 12 Championship game...sat by Tommie Frazier....enough said.
* 1992 Colorado game.....I denied my kids the pleasure of Halloween until EVERY SECOND OF THAT GAME WAS OVER!!!!!

I KNOW I said two....:)

'78 Oklahoma game gets my vote. One of the best Sooner teams ever on both sides of the ball, but NU was better that day. I would say that's the best team ever to come into Lincoln and leave with a loss.

That Alex Henery field goal against Colorado followed up by the defense coming out for essentially a victory lap (Suh pick 6). I had no doubt NU would ice it once that field goal cleared the crossbar.

Having national respect, being nationally relevant and ranked in the top 10 nearly every season.

I was at the MSU game last year. Celebrating after the game ending to 'Let me Clear My Throat' was amazing.

The hit by Ruud on Kelly Phelps, 78, OU,, our ball but refs gave to OU, crowd absolutely nuts after that, never sat down OMG what a game.

Schooling Penn State in 79, and then of course the 83 kickoff classic after the ROBBERY IN STATE COLLEGE,, LOL

Steve Taylor THROWING FOR 6 TD's against UCLA,, their linebackers were bitches against the run,,

Anthony Steels singing star spangled banner, (almost had heart attack was so excited)

- It hasn't been long since Ameer Abdullah's run against McNeese State but I'm pretty sure I will remember that forever. His effort and determination saved us from what would have been an embarrassing loss.

- The "flea-kicker" play against Missouri in 97 was certainly a memorable moment but the sack on Corby Jones to secure the win stands out a little more in my mind because I wasn't so sure we would stop them.

-Eric Crouch's TD run against Missouri.

-Alex Henery's kick vs Colorado and Ndamukong Suh's TD that followed.

Not so much the outcome of the games, but OU's Billy Simms.. literally made me sick to my stomach.. we could not stop him.

Husker win vs Miami in '95 Orange Bowl...I may have actually cried.

It had been too long and too many losses since the previous NC.

Mike Rozier completely reversing field on 3rd and goal against UCLA and running about 30 yards for a 2 yard touchdown. I was in the South end zone bleachers watching in amazement.

Crouch 95 yard run for a TD against Mizzou that basically iced the Heisman for him.

The "catch" against Mizzou. Mizzou fans had already started partying thinking they'd won the game. Their fans literally cried when they found out Davidson caught the ball.

Of course, the entire Game of the Century---incredible.

GBR

My favorite memory is without question the '78 OU game. Just a fun, exciting, meaningful game. All other memories pale in comparison to this one. Oklahoma came in with a very talented team and were outplayed by a Nebraska team that as a team could play above their talent level. OU probably is the best team ever to come to Lincoln and leave with a loss, though the '77 Alabama team is a close second.

I know this is heresy ... but we didn't outplay them ... they fumbled the ball 9 times and lost 6 of them including a fumble on the 3 yard line with about 3 minutes to go in the game

despite being +4 in the turnover column we squeaked by 17-14

great, great game but we had a lot of help from OU to get the W ... they handled us pretty well a few weeks later in the Orange Bowl

1978 Missouri loss. That loss capped off the worst in my life (unrelated to Nebraska football) with the exception of the week my father died and the week my mother died. Sometimes what is "memorable" is not good.

Actually I think we DID outplay them... Those fumbles did not cause themselves AND we got robbed on the Phelps fumble...
Were they more talented? No doubt ... But we earned it that day

A couple I will never forget that I saw in person would be Black 41 Flash Reverse against OU in 2001 and the other would be when Texas picked off Lord after we drove down the field to at least get into position to kick the tying field goal in 2002. Man that sucked.

I'll never forget that pass...oh, my...

In person: Bobby Newcombe's 94-yard (I think) punt return against Missouri in 2000. Game was still in doubt at the time, and I could not believe he fielded the ball where he did. Might still be a school record.

On TV: Went back and forth on this and considered the 1995 OB against Miami, 1997 Flea-Kicker at Mizzou, 2008 Henery kick/Suh INT against CU, the 2001 loss at CU (just because I went to the prior game against KSU with my dad and told him CU would tear us apart after seeing KSU gash us running the ball). I'm going with 1996 at Arizona State. From a talent standpoint, very evenly matched teams. NU just didn't have any emotion that night and it showed. ASU was just full of emotion and dominated the game. As a kid, taught me a good lesson about showing up.

Ones I was at...

Stuntz to EC.

AH fg.

Suh's hit and run on Hawkins.

L. David's strip and the comeback vs OSU.

I still get sick just thinking about the Orange Bowl loss to Miami after the 83 season.I was so sure we were going to pound that team.We got behind then get back in the game only to have the title deflected away. That was a "LONG COLD" winter.

Easy for me. Bobby Reynolds touchdown run in 1950 against Missouri. He probably ran 100 yards to score on an official 33 yard run. Was 1st team All American that year. I do realized that most of you were not even born yet.

Was there a thread on HuskerOnline about it at the time?

I'm laughing also. I would LOVE to be able to "trade" ages with 99% of this board. It sucks being old but I have attended and watched a lot of husker games home and away.
