Great article from Hail Varsity about what we will likely see happen immediately following the Iowa game. I've always really liked Pat Fitzgerald, as a coach and as an obviously intelligent person, and the interview shown here in this article certainly seems like he knows that beating Nebraska at home as he just did just cost his friend his job.
I like Mike Riley. I wanted him to be successful here. I think he was good for the players and good for the program in terms of his demeanor and ability to calmly deal with challenges. Having said that, he is not the winning coach we wanted, and we won't be able to retain his services after this. I think he should retire, and if he doesn't, be shown the door.
The hilarious, brutal beat-down Iowa just gave Ohio State yesterday (and the loss Penn State just experienced to Michigan State, though that was closer at least) illustrated one major point to me: talent only gets you so far. A huge part of winning is the coaching and development of players. Iowa is nothing if not consistent, and yesterday, they took their ability to play physical and be consistent and used to to lay down a brutal ass whipping on an Ohio State team that clearly wasn't ready for what it walked into. They did that because they are well coached and develop their players to the best of their abilities.
Contrast that with how Nebraska looks. At times, decent. Far too often, though, completely lost, or lazy, or incompetent. Why? It isn't the development or the talent level; in that, we're supposed to be pretty solid. I think the biggest change needed now is, sorry to say, the coaching.
Bring in a coach that will make a difference Game 1 of 2018. I don't even care who it is, though clearly, we all have opinions and preferences. Just do it.
