Last night was awful. I had hoped such blow outs were behind us.

However, in an attempt to analyze this blow out, and to compare it to other recent blow outs, there is one common denominator: very poor defensive play. A great defense keeps you in any game. That is the Alabama recipe and it was our path to success in the 90's. Many Osborne teams had great offenses (83), but lacked a great defense. He finally got over the top when his defense's became dominant too.

Wisconsin and Iowa last year ride/rode solid defenses to victory. Pelini in 2009 had a wretched offense but still almost won the Big 12 because of Suh and that defense.

Yes yes yes the whole team lost that game last night. The offense was awful too. But if you play dominant defense you keep it close, give your offense more chances on a shorter field (and we have a good kicker who can generate points), create turnovers, and give the whole team a sense that you can win. Great defense keeps you in ANY game against ANY opponent. Shitty defense also causes the offense to press and take chances, make mistakes, and get off schedule.

It begins with defense people. And last night ours was just not good at all.

I believe in these coaches. They need time. And they saw the same game we did. And unlike Pelini, these guys will not let their prideful stubbornness get in the way of making changes.

I was over this blowout before it ever happened. I just wished we could have just played this game at 11AM on some obscure channel, and then get on with the rest of the season.

OSU looked like the 95 Huskers last night ...... Winking
They most certainly have that kind of talent AND DEPTH. Burrows looked like an All American when he came in at QB. Never missed a beat and looked better than Barrett actually. Thank you Tim Beck for running him off.

OSU used and abused our D line. Period. They doubled Maurice and the rest of kids did absolutely nothing. Nothing. I'm not blaming them because I think OSU's lines ARE just that good. Barrett had all day to throw the ball. Heck, I could have picked our defense apart with that much time to throw the ball. When we blitzed we either didn't get there OR whiffed on the tackle. The good news is that it was one game and now we can focus on winning the rest of them and a good bowl game. I'll take that along with TA being able to run back on the field.

I would disagree on the defense part to an extent. Hell Nebraskas defense didnt step foot on the field for much of the 1st quarter. When gour offense only generates 9 first downs in an emtire game, your defense will not be productive the large majority of the time. when your Offensive and defensive lines are both manhandled throughout the entire game, you cant put it on the defense. yes it takes a great defense to win consistently, but even more important is a great O-line.

Louisville did this to Florida state. Happens all the time. I believe in this staffs ability to refocus the team. When we look back this will be an abberation.

We played a bad game - that is all it is. Hangover from Wisky? Sure. Team not able to practice everyone because of injuries? On offense - yes. Defense? Did not tackle well and our Dline got whipped.

If Ohio State plays like that they beat anyone including Alabama.....so you take the medicine and move on. Minnesota is a good team - we'll need to play well to win.
