***NO-HITTER***
Jackson Brockett has done it. The Omaha native and former Elkhorn South star has thrown Nebraska's first 9-inning no-hitter in 70 years (1954), completing a gem with 12 strikeouts and just two walks allowed (no HBP) on 107 pitches. He allowed a walk in the 5th and another to lead off the 9th but induced a flyout and fired back-to-back strikeouts to polish it off.
Brockett was making his first start in nearly a calendar year (May 27, 2023), had only thrown 5.1 innings over six games this season coming into tonight and hadn't pitched since April 9 against Kansas. But he certainly looked like he was in a groove against K-State tonight, leading the charge in an 8-0 win.
Here are the final two outs:
The Huskers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Riley Silva drew a walk, stole 2nd and took 3rd on an E2, then scored on a wild pitch. That's all the run support Brockett would need tonight, but Tyler Stone, Garrett Anglim and Ben Columbus all pitched in with two RBI apiece – including a two-run 2B from Anglim and a two-run HR from Columbus on back-to-back ABs in the 5th. The Huskers (28-15, 10-5 Big Ten) took a commanding 5-0 lead on the back of those two hits and added one more run in each of the next three innings.
But the night belongs to Brockett. A historic night for the junior out of Omaha!!
