Now that parents come with recruits could that be why we haven't gotten any? Maybe parents want their kids to slow it down? No idea just wondering why we didn't get any verbals.

its the 1st week of the year and they have at least 4 more officials they can take ...no reason to rush that decision

The kids we had in aren't lacking for quality offers. They will take their time.

I MO, when you recruit the high level kids, they can afford to take it slow and use all the visits making sure they get it right.

Excuses. At least one of these kids should have pulled the trigger by now. Stop sugar coating this. We probably are going to be lucky to get two commits out of that group that visited

Why decide now when you can make 4 all expense paid trips to wherever?

No, it is not excuses. It is the reality. If you paid any attention to this beforehand, we were warned not to expect any immediate commits from this because most of these highly rated players make late decisions. Pay attention to what is going on and what people in the know say about this stuff before you start criticizing.

Ok. Good advice. Sorry to be so cynical. I guess after the past 8 years or so I have lowered expectations.

This weekend the kids are all looking at lots of options, if the team gets any it will be one at most now. Likely a total of 3-4 from this weekend of uncommitted is my best bet.

Patience and work ethic are essential now, two things this staff will have in full.

National recruits. A "fun" weekend isn't going to just lock them away, they are going to have plenty of those around the country.

Another board is saying we have one silent now, and just waiting on an announcement.

You won't find out how truly successful any OV weekend is until February. Half those kids won't even announce until all Star games and even signing day.

I can guarantee you we put ourselves in the mix with alot of these kids. Having Gebbia and KJJ there was huge for us. We just had a list of visitors that every team in the Big 10 minus Michigan and Ohio State would kill for. Our biggest disadvantage has always been getting these kind of kids on campus. We did that, and we have set the bar every school will now have to surpass. I feel good about that since I believe we are the total package.

If we lose out on a kid because they want to stay closer to home that's 100% understandable and we will every year. We just need to keep bringing this kind of talent on campus and we will be well on our way back to being what we all expect Nebraska to be at.

GBR!!

I would have to think that Offensive Tackle is our #1 target. Would love to build both lines with studs. That dude is a day 1 starter from what I saw from his film.

I would settle for two out of that group

Maturity; and in truth any team would be happy with two from that group. We are running out of scholies - lol ; realize a few more and it will feel like it. I believe we are already being selective. If you see a three star being allowed to commit now; you can bet the coaches feel they can coach him up to a five. GBR

I thought John Raridon was a big guy, but he looks tiny compared to Foster Sarell.

It's great knowing we're sitting strong on 3 top 25 players.

Foster Sarell, OT, from (far out) Suburbia Seattle made his visit last Saturday. ND, Bama, Stanford, UW, Michigan have offers out there for him as well. I would love to see him go to Lincoln, but I think it is a long shot.

Going to be tough for any school to pull him away from UW, especially if they have a good season.

Well, 61 of the top 100 are committed including 10 to Ohio State.

But, but but... were we not told above not to worry since these kind of recruits don't commit until they see all options? How then does Ohio State already have 10 such commits?? I am sooo confused now! You mean I was right to worry after all that so far we have ZERO commits from last Saturday? Hmmmm

But, but but.... you're really struggling to understand what people are saying.

At the party I was at Saturday night, a couple of the guys said Mike Farrell made a comment that this past weekends official visitors in Lincoln reminds him (Farrell) of a USC official visit weekend under Pete Carroll. Sit and think about that for a minute. Better yet, don't.

And here we have people bitching and moaning. This is the exact thread why some Nebraska fans don't deserve anything better than we've had since circa 2000. Totally disconnected from reality.

I am not struggling to understand one bit. I get it.
1. Kudos to Riley for the biggest recruiting weekend in recent memory, if not ever.
2. Big time recruits often wait to pull the trigger so there is no need to panic and certainly no need to start criticizing these coaches after they worked so hard to get this elite group to campus.
3. We are no longer an elite program and we cannot have unrealistic expectations for immediate commits. Patience. Baby steps. Take the long view.
4. We probably will get some commits from this group. Once again, patience.
5. Fans who are bitching and moaning three days after the game about zero commits are whiny little turds who need to grow up.

How am I doing in the understanding department?

You are the one struggling to understand my point. And my point is that we need to tone down our euphoria over this past weekend's visits. This is a big step forward but we are not where we want to be yet. We are still not recruiting at the level of Ohio State or Michigan, and probably never will. My guess is they would have gotten a couple of commits out of such a visit almost immediately. And I will wager if you compared most of Pete Carrol's recruiting classes (since you brought him up) to our current one that you would see that we are not at that level yet.

I am not criticizing Riley. And I probably did not make that clear. I am defending him. There is going to be a lot of discontent and criticism toward him when all this recruiting hype translates into a 25th rated class that is fifth in the B1G.

I am a Riley supporter. But I don't see him getting us back to elite status for 3 or 4 years. Pelini left the cupboard pretty bare.

I just think people on here are detached from reality if they think we are going to start hauling in all these top 100 recruits this year. We have a nice start. The makings of a foundation. Recruiting is on a clear upward slant.
But there are some pretty unrealistic expectations out there.
If I am wrong about this then I am wrong and will gladly admit it and do proper Internet chat board penance.
But look, I have zero stomach for these kinds of chat board pissing contests. They just degenerate into childishness after a while. So I have said what I wanted to say and now I am done.
I was not clear in my first posts above as to what I was trying to say. I can see how people would misunderstand. My apologies
Peace

No, you don't and here's why.

You claim the above but earlier said.

One thing to consider is the West Coast kids tend to take things later into the process than kids from the rest of the country - this is not just a personal observation but one that the "gurus" mention often. I don't know why exactly...but in addition to the normal trend, not having a dominant USC makes a few more players available.

Now on the flip side of that...a lot of kids in the South East tend to "commit" earlier...but that is just more them announcing who their current leader is and giving other programs a school to target...so you might want to see how some things play out.

Ok fine. Don't want to argue. I edited my last post and added a few lines. Please read.
I said above at the top that we may get two recruits out of that group. I would be happy with that.
And in the interests of civil conversation, what is your best guess on how many will eventually commit?

I'm not trying to argue, it seemed you've been all over the place. I actually triple checked your account name before responding to make sure it's the same poster.

One for sure, possibly two. As far as the top end guys, I have patience with them as it's obvious we are doing something right just to get them here in the first place. We can't strong arm the top end guys or they'll eliminate us immediately. We're not in a position to do it and until we are, it is what it is.

At the party I was at Saturday for the game, one of the guys mentioned what Mike Farrell said about our visitors over the weekend. Our visit list reminded him of what Pete Carroll had for official visitors at USC. Sit and think about that. Seriously, and I honestly hope I didn't butcher what Farrell said.

Well first of all, parents coming on these trips is not new...it being paid for is which allows more parents to come. Second, to your hypothesis...it's actually could be a two way street. Sure, in some cases that could happen (as in slowing it down) but it also could speed it up because there is no need to go home and "discuss it with the parents" and/or take a second trip to show it them. My guess is that the two scenarios even each other up over time.

To add to that, yes many commit to Ohio state, etcetera, but those also know where the program is. They are in more of a wait and see attitude on where nebraska is progressing.

Worrying about this is dumb.

Ha. Well, in your defense after rereading my first posts I realized I allowed sarcasm to obscure the point I was trying to make. My bad entirely. Because as it stands it does appear to be all over the map. So you were right to call me out.
I would love to get two recruits out of that group. That would leave us with only five or six more spots. And right now our average stars are pretty good.

And the stuff from Farrell is encouraging to say the least

Damion Daniels just scheduled his OV to Iowa on Oct. 1. His top 100 teammate who is already committed to Iowa will be with him, along with a couple of the other Texas commits. Whoever gets this kid is going to get a stud. His videos are impressive.

We don't have Gabrielle Union on our side line but maybe Ashton can get Mila there.
