NIL deals. Contracts

Yeah, it’s pure stupidity right now. Imagine if the NFL went to basically 1 year free agency where all players could be free agents each year
The draft process would be a complete waste of time and the product on the field would deteriorate quickly. Saban saw the writing on the wall and said F this.

Contracts seem to be inevitable, however it will get pretty complicated. There will certainly be clauses for:
  • A head coach being fired
  • Immediate assistant coach being fired
  • Buyout? Or transfer fee? Similar to professional soccer

Personally, I like the idea of mirroring professional soccer's approach. Schools could sign players and assign buyout or transfer fees to them. If a player has a standout season and wants to transfer to a bigger school or a Power 4 program, the original school would receive a payout for developing the player. Meanwhile, the player benefits from a new contract, increased compensation, and the opportunity to compete at a higher level.

This then gives schools additional funds to potentially advance their program's facilities, staff, new players, etc...

What current developments?
I think possibly the large amounts of NIL money, the disparity in that amount among teams. The large amounts of portal turnover and the trimming of the rosters to 105.What I said was they might relook at it.

How is that any different that a college student getting paid for their artwork then transferring to a different art school? College players have been taken advantage of for decades. Coaches can enter the "transfer portal" at any time. Schools can trim their coaching staff at any time. High coaching turnover every single year.

People keep saying players aren't loyal and they're hired mercenaries but that's literally every job in the football program.

Scott Frost was a hired mercenaries and Nebraska showed how disloyal they were to him by firing him instead of allowing him to fulfill the 9 year contract they signed him to.

The world is filled with unintended consequences.
There's only 3-4 decent SCOTUS judges anyway. Thomas is closely associated with NU.
Wonder if some at the University chatted with him and made suggestions?
He's only 1 of 9, but as Parcells said, women don't know if a football is filled with air or stuffed with feathers.

Do you think they had the forethought to see what developed from that decision ? I'm just saying,I don't think anyone predicted the mayhem that has erupted.
I think the NCAA knew what was going to happen but there was so much pressure to move forward they went into "fvck around and find out " mode.

Marty smith had an interview with Greg Sankey and nick Saban where they came right out and said there are no rules because it’s up to the courts at this point. They don’t know what they’re allowed to do, so they allow everything to prevent another court case. They want to make rules but have to wait for the process to play out to see what rules they can make. Messed up times we are in.

I would imagine that Saban and others had an idea of how crazy this shit was going to get. People who are in the thick of it usually do.

Im not sure what the courts looked at. They aren't in the business of prognosticating. Their job is to rule on the facts and the facts alone. Of course it doesn't work that way all of the time but in theory...

The consequences were obvious to anyone who wasn't a geriatric, detached, old **** retard.

This is a response to the tweet. And the conference that offers one year, no obligation contracts will get the best players. Players are in control, as they should be...they are the talent. Sure, they can be tricked by a good nil agent or sweet talking coach but these kids, in most cases aren't idiots. What fans are missing is that the game has become so homogenized across schools that there isn't a difference between playing for Nebraska or SMU. The gear is the same, the student support facilities are similar(even if stadiums are bigger or smaller), the job is the same, the hours are the same and kids are looking to get better coaches, better opportunities or to turn their talent into money. Can you imagine being Emmett Johnson and being the epitome of a hard working, hard running back and because of coach incompetence your talent was wasted for nearly an entire year? I hope he balls out somewhere better while we figure out how to snap and kick a field goal.

So, just curious,are you calling me a geriatric, detached,old **** retard !
You might be ;) I don't know you that well. Well if you are, at least you're not making decisions that impact everybody else. As far as I know.

I am old,my decisions do affect others.Im the oldest person in the toolroom, been there since 1980 ,there are 34 others half are younger than 35.I try and lead by example.Im also the chief union steward and I have negotiated 3 contracts.I help new employees with their benefits, pay check disputes and help the company understand their own contract language. So I'm definitely not a " retard " which is a very offensive word to use.Anyway have great day.👍

Was just a joke. Was never talking about you. You seem like a good dude.

50 to 100 years ago this would be resolved the peaceful and old fashion way. They way it should be handled. Let these kids in the portal hang themselves. Blacklist them and no schools sign them. That will fix the portal problem real quick.

Will a bunch of kids not get back into college? Maybe. Will college footballs product take a talent hit for a year or two? Maybe a little but temporarily and it will fix itself
