I've watched quite a bit of his So. highlights from 2016 at HUDL, have had some friends tell me that he did exceptionally well as some camps on measurables and on his Sparq.
Had at least three P-5 offers to date that I am aware of. Had made two visits with his parents to Minnesota who is recruiting him heavily.

I think he would make a great CAT in our 3-4, what are your thoughts?

Well, NU has already offered him for that position...so, ya

Sometimes I'm surprised at how derisive people can be towards home state players, especially when you note the significantly lower level of failure with instate recruits versus out of state.

I don't believe that Nebraska as a state produces a lot of D1 talent, but conversely what D1 talent we do produce we ought to keep.

Watch this kid on his HUDL video's his speed and skill, jump off the screen. He makes big hits, and the video is of a sophomore in high school.

Right now he is Minnesota's to lose, we ought to be pursuing him more intently.

What do you want? Hes been offered, invited to camps, and he isnt graduating this season. How do you know how much he is being persued?

His mother and he have been invited and spent time with PJ Fleck now on two separate occasions. After the first one they offerred him the schollie. Keep in mind this was still when he was a sophomore in HS.

So then he should go to Minnesota. Case closed. Good for him. Are you here saying he needs his ass kissed to consider playing for Nebraska? Are you speaking for the family?

Well, that is certainly a well thought out and civil response.

Too bad. This guy makes it seem like the kid and family are asking for more attention and other things.
Fact is, if this was not an in-state kid YOU would be one of the first calling it the same thing I said.
Maybe our ex-player can line him up to announce for Minnesota on his local sports radio show!

Maybe you didn't receive the notice; it's 2017 not 1997. Even Nebraska kids expect more attention.

Read an article in the OWH a few years ago pointing out how few NEBRASKA kids wear Husker stuff in OPS schools. It has been 18 years since Nebraska won a conference - championship. Kids don't think of Nebraska as a destination football school anymore.

That is why we have to right this ship now or we become Illinois.

So break it down for us. What does the kid and his family need that they are not getting? More talking about boats, and how to row them? More pieces of mail? More visits to his school?
What do we, as members of a Husker chat board, need to stress to the staff so they can get off their asses and get this kid all he needs?

Three years ago we were all told that these issues wouldn't occur under this new staff ..... but I'm still seeing that like the previous staff, they are more willing to direct energy at players from out of state than in state.

I think one of the things they should consider is defining instate recruits to one staff member.

They did that to start with, and local people bitched because he did not play or coach here.
They currently DO have a guy for these in-state guys. But nobody can complain about him, because he played here.
Next time I talk to Riley I will make sure he knows that he needs to be at this kids house at least weekly. That is basically the only way you will be satisfied.

Overreact and make stuff up much? I leave it up to the coaches who they recruit, Nebraska or not. The fact is all if these kids want the VIP treatment that goes above and beyond. The appearance, and I have not way of knowing, is that Minny is going the extra mile to get the kid. Like it or not there is LOTS of butt kissing whenever you are recruiting kids to play football or just attend a school. You will always be compared to "the other school.". Now relax a bit.

And we know that Nebraska's staff hasn't been in contact with this player and invited him and his mom to spend time with Mike Riley at any time?

I am often confused by this phenomenon where a kid that goes to high school in Nebraska automatically loves Nebraska and it is his first choice. Then if he doesn't commit or sign with Nebraska, that the staff somehow dropped the ball.

The demographics of Omaha and Lincoln have also changed since 1997. The number of families moving from out of state has increased. In fact , as mentioned earlier, I don't believe the Henrich's have ever been diehard Nebraska fans. That matters.

Nonsense. Riley hates in-state kids, and none of the in-state kids are attention whores like these same posters like to call any recruits from other states.
Plus the in-state kids deserve more attention, because. And if "because" is not a good enough reason, you are overreacting.

I am not the one on here bitching about the Nebraska staff. But since that is what you real Husker fans have deemed acceptable, that is considered normal.
Have any of you considered just how shitty it looks to bitch about everything they have done since day 1? And then you are surprised when a local kid (who constantly hears about how shitty these coaches are, and how they don't want local kids) is not really that interested in coming to Nebraska over other places?
But yes, it's me over-reacting. Lol.

The issue is that only assistant coaches can have direct off campus interaction with potential scholarship athletes. Staff members cannot under NCAA rules have contact with potential scholarship athletes off campus. They may only have contact with walk-ons off campus.

That severely limits Kenny Wilhites impact in these scenarios.

This is the way it has pretty much always been done at Nebraska. Is that not good enough anymore?

Are you sure? Tavita seems to talk to a bunch of players. There is a limit to the number of on the road recruiters, but a lot of that support staff seems to be on the phone with recruits quite a bit.

Secondly, don't confuse initiate contact with have contact. If Kenny Wilhite gives his phone number to the Burke coach and says have Nick Henrich give me a call. No rules are violated.

Lastly, how would the NCAA determine if Nebraska was asking Henrich to walk on or offer him a scholarship? There is no way to enforce a rule outlined as you state. NCAA recruiting rules only address prospective student athletes. They don't break it down by walk on and scholarship. If a school is in contact, the player is a PSA

What a load of bull. They did an instate tour last year, have taken multiple instate kids each cycle and already have an instate commit for 2019.

Also off campus contact cannot be made by any coach until after July 1 following the PSA's junior year. So if coach RTB has been visiting this kid, then contact the NCAA and let them know.
No idea if this is true, but would be absolutely hilarious if so. The kid is being used by Minny's new coach if true. And if he is the one visiting Minny, but also holds a Husker offer.... what is stopping him from coming barely an hour down the road when he can apparently go 8 the other way multiple times.
I wonder if it has anything to do with the people in his ear telling him how shitty it is here, and how much our coaches do not want him?

I just verified my statements on tje NCAA website, I am correct. F/SM at universities may contact students by phone only, and specifically during regulated dates and hours.

THEY CANNOT HAVE DIRECT CONTACT WITH POTENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP ATHLETES OFF CAMPUS. THEY CAN'T EVEN JOIN COACHES AND PSA's for dinner off campus.

So what was it. Did the kid and his Mom go up to Minnesota twice for visits and have lunch in the school cafeteria?
Or are you lying?

Seems like the real situation is this kid is being used by so-called "adults" with an agenda.

AT THIS POINT IN TIME, NO ONE CAN HAVE OFF CAMPUS CONTACT WITH THIS PLAYER. HE ISNT EVEN A JUNIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL YET.

Secondly there is no term "potential scholarship athlete". The term is prospective student athlete.

So in conclusion Kenny Wilhite and coach RTB have the exact same restriction whe. It comes to this specific PSA. Period.

How about maybe the difference is a head coach calling and asking the kid to come visit again?

I've talked to other people about how this delineation of recruiting areas only by position is working out. The impression is it works for guys like both Williams but it doesn't work as well for Davis, Bray, Cavanaugh, et al.
We're missing out on players that if we were more focused on regionally we might get. Last year we closed on NSD 3 short of our class, and their were positions we simply struck out on.

1949 is either the father/family member or close friend of the family Im guessing. If not, then you really dont know what the husker coaches have done.
Think about something. Your son/family member/friend got a scholarship offer at one of the most prestigious football institutions in the nation. You say its not 1997 anymore...no it isnt, but NU is still one of the major programs in regards to fans, attendance, total wins, consstency, etc. comparing Minnesota and Nebraska as football schools is a no brainer...NU is the bigger brand/destination/more prestigious. Now that doesnt mean that individuals dont like minny more than NU or that a recruit wouldnt pick minny over NU, im speaking on the macro level. What am I getting at? A sophmore in a state not known for talent was invited to camps and offered a scholly to play football and get an education for free. He doesnt graduate for two more years. And youre complaining hes not wanted enough??! I wish i were wanted that little!
Also keep in mind who we are working on for our current classes. 5 and 4 star guys and competing with major programs. It takes effort and attention.
Our coaches want this kid, and so do I. If they didnt want him, they wouldnt have offered him before his junior year, because they didn't have to.
Wait a year or two.

Where in the NCAA rulebook does it staye that Wilhite can have off campus contact with walkons?

Minneapolis is being turned into a 3rd world country. I'd go just about anywhere rather than there. To each their own. If he's good enough, I hope he's a Husker. If he's from Omaha and he's not a husker then he has crappy parents RollingLaughRollingLaughRollingLaugh:p
