Nick Gates apparently had a monster game

Farmer is the one who stood out to me. First time he's been on the field, right? He's the one who nearly tackled Armstrong at the endzone, because he stuck with his block all the way down the field and hit that point the same time Tommie did. On Ozigbo's first run (or maybe first decent run), he was shoulder to shoulder with the tackle leading the way, and just peeled back beautifully to stone a linebacker who was trying to slide in behind him. Stopped him cold. I have no idea if he has the strength to push around better linemen, but he definitely has great vision and feet. He had some chip/help and release to the second level blocks that he was quick enough to cleanly find his second block. For those who like to rewatch the game, keep an eye on him. Just a really solid first start.

After Farmer missed a crucial block on that first series, he had a whale of a game! The wrestling room did help, even if some thought it may be too big of a risk!

I rewatched the game yesterday. Gates and Farmer both stood out to me. Gates was a total road grader. I lost count how many times I saw him driving some dude into the ground at the end of a running play. It was beautiful. Props to Dylan Utter too. He had an old school Dominic Raiola personal foul on one running play. He was done blocking his guy, and then took off five yards up the field to nail a linebacker that was engaged in a block. He got there about the time the whistle blew and he blasted the guy. Those kind of plays set a tone even if they cost you some yards. Perhaps less personal fouls next week, but keep the aggressive style.

It was also a little bit of retaliation I believe from the previous play. Not sure really what happened because I was looking somewhere else, but the east stadium fans sure thought there was a big no call against Fresno St.

This is great to read. I didn't get a chance to watch the game, but did anybody notice if Barnett got in at guard, or Decker at center? I was hoping the RS freshmen would get a chance for some snaps to help them develop, too.

Don't believe Barnett was on the participation list, can't say that I can remember either way on Decker.

They did not. The only sub on the o-line was Whitaker. He went in for Hahn at the end of the fourth.

I need to correct myself. The block I was thinking about was on the first series, 2nd down play with Newby running. He had a nice block on the second series with Oz running, but it was just keeping his guy out of the lane and sticking to him like glue. And, yeah, he did get bad on the 3rd down of the first series.
