Awhile back there was discussion on the type of offenses that are successful in the NFL. It was mentioned how the top offenses are trending with dual threat guys instead of "statues", which I strongly disagreed with. Unfortunately, that thread is locked but since the NFL regular season is over, here's a final recap.

Top 15 QB ratings:
Ryan, PRO/WCO
Brady, PRO/WCO
Prescott, DT
Rodgers, PRO/WCO
Breese, PRO/WCO
Bradford, PRO/WCO
Cousins, PRO/WCO
Carr, PRO/WCO
Luck, PRO/WCO
Mariota, DT
Roethlisberger, PRO/WCO
Tannehill, DT
Stafford, PRO/WCO
Wilson, DT
Dalton, PRO/WCO

Top 15 scoring offenses:
Falcons, PRO/WCO
Saints, PRO/WCO
Patriots, PRO/WCO
Packers, PRO/WCO
Cowboys, DT
Cardinals, PRO/WCO
Raiders, PRO/WCO
Colts, PRO/WCO
Chargers, PRO/WCO
Steelers, PRO/WCO
Bills, DT
Redskins, PRO/WCO
Chiefs, DT
Titans, DT
Panthers, DT

Playoff teams:

Patriots, PRO/WCO
Cowboys, DT
Falcons, PRO/WCO
Chiefs, DT
Steelers, PRO/WCO
Seahawks, DT
Packers, PRO/WCO
Texans, PRO/WCO
Giants, PRO/WCO
Raiders, PRO/WCO
Dolphins, PRO/WCO [DT 13 of 16 games]
Lions, PRO/WCO

On a side note, I'll just leave this here.

Eli Manning QB rating:
2012 68.3 [#9]
2013 42 [#27]
2014 66.1 [#14]
2015 61 [#17]
2016 52.2 [#27]

In 2014, the NYG went to a "west coast offense", and Danny Langsdorf was hand picked by Coughlin and McAdoo to get Eli Manning right. And, with all kinds of footwork controversy, Gruden had talked extensively about it, it's the best year Eli's had in a WCO so far and his second best over the last five seasons.

Point of the side note, it's up to the players [QB's] if they want to get better, and it's a reason I have a lot of confidence this position is in dang good hands going forward. Matter of fact, it's the least worried position I have on the entire team.

I wish I could give this post three likes. Thanks for doing this homework and thanks for posting it.

I could not agree more with your assessment of Langsdorf and the future of our QB position. Contrary to popular opinion, it is possible to recruit WCO type talent to Lincoln. And while nobody wants a statue for a QB, it simply is nonsense to say that unless you have a DT QB you are going to have more sacks. A traditional pro style QB is just fine so long as they have good pocket presence, some physical strength, and the ability to scramble just a bit when necessary. Rodgers, Brady, Roethlesberger etc.. all have that ability. No need to have Tommie Frazier back there.

Great post
