Assuming Newby is healthy and ready to go - who carries the rock if you're the coach: Newby or Cross

I'll give the nod to Cross

If Cross doesn't get 90% of the snaps on running plays, our coaches are truly incompetent.

I think with our running game as it is I'd have to go with Cross. We often complain of line issues when our runners fail to gain but there have been plenty of plays this season where Newby hesitated and allowed running lanes to close. We're not going to have a lot of success running the ball if the decision making by the back is often poor. Hitting the hole is about as important as gets, even if you only pick up 3 yards doing so.

I'd rather have Cross and Ozigbo getting carries of 4 and 5 yards a pop and really pounding on the defense. It would be so satisfying to see old school Nebraska football that breaks the opponents will by the end of the third quarter.

Cross needs to play a major role with pounding Iowa with a determined offensive line. Get Tommy on the edge to run and sprinkle in a few well designed pass plays to keep Iowa on their heels.

Newby is not an inside runner, could never understand why the coaches put him in that role.

Nick Saban left the Big Ten for Alabama and he appears to like the South. Balance is very important. While Iowa hasn't won many in the series, the 1981 win was fueled by stopping the run. It was a very good run defense lead by a future NFL pro bowler Andre Tippett.

Mike Riley was a good selection to replace Bo Pelini. He hasn't won more than 10-4, but neither did Bo Pelini in College Football.

In today's colllege football, Iowa has been using 3-4 backs, with the exception of Jordan Canzeri's 43 carry day in win over Illinois.

Looking at a 12 game schedule, the need for depth is critical.

Wisconsin made a very nice run from 2010 to 2014 with a rotation of RBs.

The experience of group this year wasn't like past years.

I say we start off with Cross (of course Jano in the mix with every RB) and mix in Newby and then figure out which one is hitting the wholes the best and go with hot hand. Cross will smash Iowa's LBs all day and hurt em but Newby is possibly the fastest of all RBs of both teams, his speed could do some major damage, assuming his vision is on.

Cross and straight ahead. Too often when they in cross its sideways. That will never work.

Whichever one is in the game at the time is who I would give the carries. The comments about Newby on this board this year have been rediculous beyond belief. Some folks obviously are basing their opinions on personal favorites rather than what's actually happening on the field. Funny how coaches and game commentators talk about Newby running hard and breaking tackles. Is he gonna truck people like Cross? Of course not based on size but to question the kids toughness is ignorant.

According to Riley, if Newby is healthy, it will be Cross and Newby. So don't expect to see much of Ozigbo if Newby is healthy.

I don't understand how people think we are going to smash mouth our way to a win when that's not when this team is at its most effective. The key is how accurate Tommy is and hopefully he is tuned in when he's had a pretty controversial week.

While many wish we were the Huskers of old, that is not playing into the strength of this team. We will have to mix things up in the air and ground to beat this sound Hawkeye team.

Believing your eyes on some plays is questioning his toughness? Its a position of many responsibilities; it was pretty much said he was the best at pass blocking; and that was keeping some others out. He is tough; its also an observation that tacklers bring him to a quicker stop under most conditions and angles than the other backs. It maybe in part be physical size and f

IMO he's just not good enough at hitting the hole and his hesitation with deciding on a running lane costs Nebraska gains on the ground fairly regularly. If he gets some space he's not bad but other than that I don't think he's a back that will benefit the offense greatly.
