New tradition between 3rd and 4th quarter

Yep. I'm in. But would be cool if we could do something uniquely Nebraska.

That is awesome!

This would mean the start of cheer practice the night before the game.

It seems like "Let me clear my throat" may have to be incorporated at some point. That was some pretty magical stuff for the Mich State game.
that will be it ...i think .....after the touchdown vs wisconsin it was pretty cool to just see the build up of emotion during the tv timeout....then the rest happened and it sucked

Put the 4 fingers up because you're about to finish the game strong...and actually you do it......when we start doing that consistently, then the chants will mean something..Otherwise it just looks like the trendy thing to do.

Would be cool to add a celebrity or special guest lead the cheer and beat the drum.

I think we should take a different page from soccer and at the end of the third quarter swap jerseys with the hottest chick in your immediate vicinity
Won't work. One Babe would have hundreds of shirts...

logistics ... logistics

she wouldn't have to end up with your shirt in the end ... she would just have to keep swapping out the shirt she has for the next one
that way you take off your shirt once and she takes her shirt off a hundred times

Let's not let the fine details cause us to lose focus on what is important .... An attractive women is taking off her shirt

Probably need numerous pre game practice sessions leading up to the game as well

I'm tired of how boring Memorial Stadium is between the 3rd and 4th quarter. Surely we could pull something like this off. Thoughts?

That's cool and all, but it seems to me that the best stadium traditions aren't contrived or adopted from someone else. They just happen. For NU football, it's the tunnel walk, the red balloons, and the marching band playing "Mr. Touchdown". That said, you're right about needing something between the 3rd & 4th quarters.

How about having a Husker Bob or Mad Mike type guy (remember them?) get up to lead a cheer in front of the east stadium and immediately follow that up with some loud music of some sort?

That was cool for Iceland yet I was underwhelmed when thinking Nebraska should do something like that.

I think Hddude55 had the best idea...get back to NEBRASKA FOOTBALL DOMINANCE heading into the fourth quarter. Winking

I agree that they just happen, but Mr. Touchdown is so dumb. The less of the band we have to see I am happy with. The pride of all Nebraska is pretty boring.

I figured someone would post this and I couldn't disagree more. Most traditions are copied from somewhere. It's the long term use and change of the tradition that makes it our own. We copied the tunnel walk song from the Chicago Bulls. We copied the "waiving of the corn" after touchdowns from Kansas. Not sure who started the taking off the shoe at kickoff thing but it wasn't us nor was the spirit fingers and loud shout for the opening kick-off. The balloon thing, as far as I can tell, wasn't copied from another school but who knows how we got the idea. Mr. Touchdown might be original, but it is also lame.

Traditions have to start somewhere. I'm not suggesting we do it the exact same way, I'm suggesting doing a take on the Iceland thing would be pretty awesome. For example when clapping we could say N----U-----N-----U. There are any number of ways we could change it to make it our own.

Yeah, having some random guy (like Husker Bob) start an N---U---N---U chant would be pretty cool. That wouldn't be copying anything. As far as the Bulls go, sure they used the song before we did and somebody probably used it before the Bulls did, but the Tunnel Walk and the Horseshoe is an authentic Husker tradition in my book.

I love the Tunnel Walk, but to act like we were the first team to start a tradition of running out of the tunnel from the locker room and touching a lucky object on the way out is a little naive. Awesome tradition, and we've made it our own. We were the first team to integrate video boards into the tradition. However, a lot of teams all over the country do something similar. Nothing wrong with that. It doesn't make the tradition any worse in my eyes, they all have to start somewhere.

Yeah. Wisconsin wasn't the first to play the "if your girl steps up, I'm smacking the ho" Jump Around song either, but it's an authentic part of what they do there too.

A new, old tradition would be comfortable leads entering the fourth quarter and the sight of reserves getting ready to play the fourth quarter.
How about the PA announcer reads the scores of other relevant games in progress. Nothing gets a crowd fired up like hearing tOSU is trailing Purdue in the 3rd quarter.
