Riley alluded to a new commit we received today....any guesses? Just reading the tea leaves I think it may be Tremayne Anchrum

I dont see why he cant release info on commitments until there signed. Im guessing its a decent named guy or he would have kept it to himself. I just wished Keshawn Johnson Jr would just commit already, he knows he loves this staff and his dad loves Riley as well so the chances are very good he will be a Husker anyways. I just hope at the least Gebbia comes with him, and id defently take Holmes too. We sorely need a 5 star CB along side Lee for years to come, 2 true lock down corners would help our defense A LOT.

kJJ really put it out there that he'd never consider Nebraska except for Riley. Him and his dad are probably going to take awhile to gauge whether they think Riley and Williams have a decent shot of being around for juniors career. Would be my guess

I'm pretty sure coaches can't comment on recruits till they're either enrolled or have signed their letter of intent.

Facepalm

Yes, been keeping track since Callahan was coach and it was fun to see who we got next. Just saying, just didn't understand why its such an issue to release commitments by a football coach, i just don't see any harm in it, Thats all.

And yes, i really feel KJJ is ours with all the visits and love he shows Riley, i think the only way we don't get him is if we do fire Riley. Other then that, i fail to see the issue of my reply, basically guesses and hopes.

Because it's a violation of NCAA rules for schools to announce the name of commitments prior to the recruit actually signing.

Because it's a slippery slope between merely providing a name of someone who committed and using the media as a recruiting tool for specific kids. Either you have some objective milestone like signing a letter of intent (verbals mean nothing), or you will have coaches giving press conference stroking some 17 year old kid's ego, which would also allow the media to play an even greater role in recruiting. Teams with ESPN's spotlight would do even better, while the Iowa States of the world would be giving press conferences to empty rooms. There is already enough bs around the recruiting process, so I'm glad the NCAA puts in some limits.

It really is a silly rule. Recruiting is so huge anymore that it doesn't matter. Everyone knows who publicly verbals to a school and they are interviewed by the press all the time.

I can only guess that the reason the kid hasn't made his commitment public is because he wants to have his big announcement and 15 seconds of fame. Kids love that for whatever reason, so let them enjoy their moment. We will all know sooner or later.

Um, doesn't Miles routinely release a presser every time he gets a commit? I think coaches can identify commits, but can't provide any kind of evaluation of the commit until he/she signs. Could be wrong though. I put little stock in any reported commitments until signing day - particularly in football where committing and decommitting has become quite commonplace. And, I put almost no stock in signings until the kid actually shows up on the field. All you have to do is go back and look the list of signings and how many ever set foot on the field at any meaningful time as a husker to see why getting excited over any commit is almost pointless - in my most humble opinion.
