New addition to the staff

From what I read, while at ND he was the lead recruiter for 10 4 star recruits as well as the #1 TE in 2015 and #3 TE in 2017. Havent researched it other than what the article said.

Notre Dames special teams were horrendous last year, but bringing him in as an analyst is a solid move. Gives him a chance to rehab his image with a familiar staff and gives us a chance to bring a quality guy onboard without taking up a coaching spot.

So let me get this straight -- we hire a special teams analyst to tell the special team coaches how to coach special teams. Got it. Sometimes I get the impression that this coaching staff is in full panic mode.

Uhm no. Nice troll try though.

He was hired as an analyst to monitor all aspects of special teams. This allows position coaches to coach positions a majority of the time and not fall short in special teams. Since there are only 9 assistants allowed, he can't actually coach the players.

We hired him for his recruiting, he was the lead recruiter for many of ND's top commits in his time there. Not panicking, addressing needs.

Except, as a non-coach, he can't go off campus to recruit
I miss the days when you complained that Barney did not leave campus to recruit (and he was actually allowed to). Remember all of those times? They were too numerous to count!

Special teams analyst? What a great job! Tell the special teams coach what you think about kicking and coverage as a full time gig? I'm hoping he does a little more, like bring donuts to meetings or be commish for the coaches' fantasy leagues. Probably still pays more than what most of us make.

Really?

What? As an analyst he can do a number of different things, for example when Bob Elliott was an analyst for Notre Dame he spent a ton of time on defending the option (which they had struggled with mightily) the summer before their 2015 season when they had to play Navy and Georgia Tech. Booker will be able to specialize and help review tape of each opponent, exploit weaknesses and tendencies, watch tape of teams with successful special teams and see what we can implement, etc. I never thought anyone would be mad that we have additional resources on our staff but I guess I should've known. This is not panicking, we should be trying to gain an edge in every single way we can, that's not desperate, that's smart.
