Might be the stupidest player on this team.... Seriously if he never went to class , as was alledged, then:
- no letter, no season stars
- our academic advisor should be fired
Thanks tarheelSeveral pages back are devoted to discussing his actions, selfishness, lack of responsibility & absence of all integrity.
Agreed one hundred percent. Gerry was selfish and lazy.
Agree. Multiple people dropped the ball on the Gerry situation. Starting with Nate. Very disappointing.Might be the stupidest player on this team.... Seriously if he never went to class , as was alledged, then:

Gerry is a huge idiot. He is far from guaranteed to make it in the NFL. Right now, he's projected as a 6th round draft pick as the #9 rated free safety in CSB. I'm sure he will test well for NFL scouts, but there are huge question marks about his character from his lack of effort last year to the complete disregard for showing up to class. Huge red flags and will drop him imo. This ain't a guy that is not book smart. This is a moron being lazy and not caring.
Honestly, I wonder how far away he is from getting his degree. I know they said he was on track to get his degree this spring, but he screwed away a semester this fall and who knows how many other classes he has blown off. Hell, he was suspended for the first game for grades for either his summer courses or his spring "effort".He is a huge idiot. Hopefully he will wise up and get his degree so he has something to fall back on when his playing days are over.l beacuse I have a feeling he wont last long in the league.
The only person who dropped the ball was Nate. The coaches were well aware of his situation and had multiple discussions with him along with advisors and teammates. Hell, his parents were made aware of the situation and I was told his mom just laughed about it. He honestly didn't care and that's a huge slap in the face to his teammates, coaches, University, fans, etc. He was suspended the first game for academics, so that obviously didn't work. I seriously hope they ban him from using the facilities to train for the NFL.Agree. Multiple people dropped the ball on the Gerry situation. Starting with Nate. Very disappointing.

I guess I wouldn't say they knew the whole time, but were definitely aware towards the end of the season.Disappointing to hear that they knew the whole time.
Still disappointing.I guess I wouldn't say they knew the whole time, but were definitely aware towards the end of the season.
That's a tough one to me. Technically he hadn't broken any rules and was eligible all of the regular season. Coaches also are paid to win games and putting your best players on the field help do that. It's easy for us to sit here and say that when our jobs don't depend on it. I don't necessarily disagree with you, just understand why he played. Hell, if coaches did what you said, most of the Kentucky basketball team would be suspended. Haha.Still disappointing.
I dont see why at that point a coach wouldnt say...ok you aint playing.
Before everyone freaks out on me, im not saying riley should hold his hand and have someone get him up and take him to class. That would be worse actually.
Just an unemotional "if your decision is to not go to class, then you are t playing."
I get it but hes a captain, look at the selfish message hes sending. If everyone who says gerry was toxic is right, which they probably are, then why sit back and let this crap fly? Make a stand, get rid of him, send a message. Hes stealing money that could go to someone who will actually use it for an education. I guess there should be rules that dont need to be set by the ncaa for them to be followed here. That's a tough one to me. I kinda wish they would have stripped his captain status from him when they found out. I know he was not allowed to travel with the team to the bowl game, but was going on his own dime. My question is, was he allowed on the sideline and in the locker room?I get it but hes a captain, look at the selfish message hes sending. Im not mad at riley for this, it isnt his fault, but im just disappointed and think it should have been handled differently.
And i get your assessment of kentucky but uh screw them.
Surprisingly, I agree ... At least for THIS yearHe ought to man up and pay back his scholarship
Isn't ignominy a college town in Wisconsin? WTH?I was so excited when we recruited and got him. Seemed like he was one of those players that was going to play over his head and really improve the people around him. He leaves in ignominy.
Choosing the night life was a big one for him. Right after the thread on here about him not playingn him, Tommy, Brandon Reilly and Tanner Lee were at the casino in CB. A friend posted on FB that they were there. I told her how nice to have 4 guys (well 3 and BR) there that wouldnt be playing in the bowl game. She asked him if he was excited to play in the bowl game and all he could say was "oh ya Im excited" (knowing he wouldnt be playing) Ive loved the way he plays at times but havent been able to stand his character. Hell the kid chants his own name while playing blackjack. Very immature to say the least.
Ignominy is a very good word for it.
For any Iowa fans reading, it means causing yourself great shame or dishonor.
And then you would call out Riley for cutting his ass loose. It would go something like "the kid is here for football, not school". To deny that is a lie. Only at Nebraska is a coach criticized for not holding a kids hand, who has been warned numerous times. The kid refused to be a team player. He has zero respect for his teammates and coaches. Period. End of story.Still disappointing.
