@Robin Washut, I know it is firmly in football season, but I am excited for the basketball season and with the good news of a new commit tonight I thought I would start a new thread about the upcoming season and the team.
First topic of discussion: Starters
I think we have great depth, but now that shows a little problem to see what we roll out as our Starting 5. I am taking a crack at it, but it I'm a little shaky on the 2, but taking Gill.
PG -- Glynn Watson
SG -- Anton Gill
SF -- Isaiah Roby
PF -- Isaac Copeland
C -- Jordy Tshimanga
Topic 2: Next Man Up
So we have a Starting 5, now who is the "Next Man Up"?
PG -- Evan Taylor / Thomas Allen
SG -- Thomas Allen / James Palmer / Nana Akenten / Thorir Thorbjarnarson
SF -- Jack McVeigh / Akenten / Palmer
PF -- Roby / McVeigh / Palmer
C -- Duby Okeke
With a thought that the order will be as follows:
6 -- Taylor
7 -- Palmer
8 -- Okeke
9 -- McVeigh
10 -- Allen
11 -- Akenten
12 -- Thor
Topic 3: Depth
Pure talent-wise, this team seems to have more talent on the roster than we've had in a while. So now, how deep of a roster does Miles want to play? Most coaches like to go 9-10 deep for their rotation. Does Miles stretch it out and play more? Or keep it traditional and maybe redshirt a player or two?
Topic 4: Redshirts?
Does Miles redshirt any players this year? Perhaps Thor? If not, the recycle back to Topic 3, and what type of role will they each carve out for the season.
This question is mostly for Nana -- about whom I am really excited -- and Thor.
Topic 5: Roles
Does this team finally have set roles that the players understand and accept? Part of the downfall of the past couple of seasons is that we had players who either didn't know their role, or didn't accept that their role was to do a certain thing. Does this roster buy in to playing their role and maybe taking a back seat as a Freshman/Sophomore? Or even harder, as a Junior/Senior getting out of the way of a more talented Freshman/Sophomore that is behind them?
I personally believe this will be the most important aspect towards a successful season this year.
I'm sure there is more to discuss, but those are the topics I have rattling around in my head. What do you all think? I'd love to hear opinions and any inside information that people may have. Robin, what says you?
