I had 3 day argument basically about how Oregon found their angle and have rode it for all that its worth. Phil Knight..Nike..uniforms..facilties..that cater to 17 yr old kids.

Nebraska's biggest recruiting tool is the incredible fan base and its time to be fully unleashed if we are going to climb to the top of the football mountain.

Why hasnt NU hosted a recruiting event where they use the fan base to help recruit. If asked to do your part..NU fans could undoubtedly fill the stadium for a recruitment event. Have the kids run out the tunnel in uniform and truly feel what its like. If asked to go to a high school game of certain top 50 player in the country..NU fans could fill out a high school game to show the recruit the support. Standing room only..everyone in all RED cheering for ONE kid! Za-VI-IER, Za-VI-IER..the whole damn game! Then do the same thing for WATTS the following week. Then take it nationwide..NU fans are all over and willing to travel. Pick a date for Sker fans to show up at all top targets games! Hutchmaker the following week! Mookie the next. We gotta think outside the box, the same way Tom did with the option offense, prop 48, and walk on program.

Gabrielle Union...bring her in for every game to meet with recruits.

Tell her to bring her husband with her. And have him wear his gold medal and 3 championship rings. The star power of the two has to be a nice recruiting tool.

Well some would argue that we utilize our fanbase every time we have visitors to a home game or to a Friday Night Lights camp.

Brainstorming ways to FURTHER use or advantage, ways that every school isnt using. NU fans also stand out on social media...retweets..follows unlike any other fan base. These are things the recruits say

Frankly, we’re Nebraska. We’re not sexy. Lincoln is a nice college city, but it’s not a destination location. We have tradition. We have huge fan support. We have work ethic and a desire to excell beyond what most simply settle for. We have one of the most popular, hot young coaches in the nation with one of the most exciting offensive philosophies in the nation. If anyone knows how to leverage our “advantages” it’s Frost.

Despite Riley’s complete failure, IMO he did one positive thing. He leveraged social media and got enough high profile players to at least make Nebraska more sexy to recruits. If Frost can continue that (which so far looks like he can and will) and begin to compete for conference titles... well then I think Top 10 recruiting classes are possible if not probable.

How many fans of other top college programs show up en masse with their gear on at high schools, traveling game to game in attempts to get recruits attention? I'm sure some do, but an average high school stadium in larger cities around the country can have capacity of at least 8,000 on up to 20,000.

It's a novel idea, but you're just not going to get that kind of turnout from most fans, and frankly, that's a bit overboard for most any fan to want to take on.

Like z28 said, it's Nebraska, not real sexy for a lot of players, location or uniform wise. Not the GO TO school like Bama, OU, USC, tOSU, LSU, Texas and a few others. But that didn't keep athletes like Tommie Frazier or a host of others from showing up. More than anything, it's coaches who sell a vision and back it up with hard work, players buying into that vision and working hard to obtain their goals, nice facilities, a loyal fan base, and a bit more.

I've often said that the Nebraska football we've witnessed for the past 15 years is more normal to what it should have been, in line with or a bit better than the Missouri's, K-State's, Wisconsin's, Michigan State's, Colorado's, etc.of the world. To have a winning record the past decade and a half, with all the coaching turnover is pretty remarkable, especially with the lean amount of top flight talent due to a small in state base as well as some less than stellar efforts from some coaches regarding recruiting on a national level.

The anomaly concerning Husker football was Devaney and Osborne, two great coaches who themselves, along with their staff's, recruited good to great players and coached them beyond what the past three coaches were capable of doing, with a minor exception to Solich, when he had those great players, he came close to fielding a NC team. Bottom line, as we all know, great recruiting and coaching will get Nebraska or any school near those goals, we'll just have to see over the course of time if Frost is able to elevate Nebraska to the stratosphere that was 70, 71; 81,82, 83; 93-99.

Lets win a primetime game for the first time since 2001...like 18 years...and see if that helps. Worrying about recruiting w/o winning is a waste of time. Frosty's clock is ticking...he needs not only wins, but impressive ones and quickly...could be OSU and maybe Iowa next year...as we've seen with Clemson and Alabama, CF does not hand out participation trophies, and plans hatched by message board warriors are won't to work... we have the best guy we could imagine getting, we'll see if it is enough.

Michigan already hosts a recruitment event..illegal for fans to go to a high school game?? stop it
Call NU compliance office and let me know what they say about NU coaches/admin asking NU fans to show up to specific unsigned student athlete’s high school games.

Recruitment event like Friday Night Lights is one thing. To have NU direct fans to attend specific recruit games....no chance.

No, the NCAA rule book has no limitations on fan activity in recruitment

Wrong -

Contact - A contact is any face-to-face encounter between a prospect, or the prospect’s parent or legal guardian, and an institutional staff member or athletics representative during which any dialogue occurs.

Athletics Representatives You are considered a representative of the University of XXXXX athletic interests if you:
• are, or have ever been, a member of any Nebraska booster organization;
• have ever made donations to the University’s athletic program;
• are, or have ever been, involved in recruiting prospects or in providing benefits (e.g. summer jobs) to enrolled student-athletes;
• are, or have ever been, involved in promoting the University’s athletic program in any way;
• have ever purchased a game ticket;

Once an individual is identified as an athletic representative, the person retains that identity for life, even if you no longer contribute to the athletic program.

Yeah...or we can not be a bunch of grown men jersey chasers. There's that option too I suppose.

The best way to get back to sexy is to start winning. Get our swag back, don’t look back and then they will start looking at us again. We are not fancy, we are Nebraska.

BS

Why don't they host a recruiting event where they ask the fanbase to fill the stadium to help out?

You mean like the spring game? Or IDK, really any home game?

Thanks for the info. That is certainly overly broad. Since I have purchased tickets for many of Nebraska’s rivals over the years, I, technically, could commit recruiting violations on behalf of those universities.

If you are talking to them about going to that university, I suppose that is correct. I am sure it is overly broad so that fans of a university don’t do things like, show up in droves to watch high school boys play football and try to entice them into going to their university.

It’s all about coaches and the system first. Facilities is to recruit coaches. Kids want to play in front of large enthusiastic fan base. Moms want a good education and for their child to be safe.

What you call weird is what recruits mention first..at some point "satellite camps" sounded crazy. Sleeping at recruits house sounds crazy. Having 30 uniforms sounded crazy. 100 walk ons sounded crazy. Its only crazy until somebody does it

You're really knocking it out if the park this week. What's next...Husker fans showing up for 8th/9th grade graduations? Calm down, get off of Twitter, and allow these kids to have a life.

Basically anybody who has had tickets to NU home games since there is a booster club fee attached to those tickets would be considered potentially a booster.

I agree fan base is key to our recruiting. We have traveled well as a fan base historically, but what if we dedicated this season to taking over stadium's at CU, Purdue, Illinois, Minnesota, and Marland? Not only would it increase the likelihood of winning those games but could give our coaches a great tool in this critical year of recruiting to take program to next level. I'll do my part, I'll attend at least three of those games with a large group of friends and family.

Well, an original plan at birth would be something. :)

Well, you made a good decision on staying off of Twitter. Thank you for that.

Why do you feel the need to do anything differently than what we are doing right now? Frost and his staff are killing it on the recruiting front. And our fanbase does their part during the spring game and home games. There is no need to risk our integrity as a program by bombarding kids with multitudes of Husker fans at high school games. Frankly, it would be pretty strange and creepy to do something like that.

Our gameday atmosphere, tradition, and facilities sell our program very well. We just went 4-8 and may end up with a Top 15 recruiting class. Think what a 9+ win season will do for this coaching staff and recruiting.

Continue the Friday Night Lights camps, as well as the regular camps, continue on with the current recruiting philosophy of keeping Nebraska kids at home, own the 500-mile radius, continue to expand the walk-on program, and it will happen for us.

Frost is ultimately going to do what TO did, which is to go 4 or 5 deep offenses and defenses going against each other and maximizing reps for starters and backups during each practice. He knows that's how we're going to develop talent and depth. He saw it when he was here in the 90s, and is implementing that same approach.

And here I thought when I opened this thread I was going to see pics and videos of the Scarlets.....:confused:
