Petersen Wins Big Ten Javelin Title

- Seven Huskers earned team points and Arthur Petersen claimed the javelin title, as the Nebraska track and field team wrapped up the first day of competition at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships with the men in fourth and the women in sixth.

The Huskers saw four athletes in the top 10 of the men’s javelin, led by Petersen earning the Big Ten Championship, throwing 78.91m (258-10). Dash Sirmon earned bronze (75.77m, 248-7), Keyshawn Strachan was fourth (73.24m, 240-3) and Hayden Gorovitz was ninth (65.76m, 215-9).

Ali Bainbridge improved her second-fastest 10,000m time in school history, as she ran 33:24.07 for fifth place and four team points.

Freshman Dyson Wicker cleared 5.29m (17-4 ¼) in the men’s pole vault to tally two team points and place seventh. In the women’s hammer throw, Cammy Garabian also finished seventh, throwing 62.80m (206-0), a PR and the third-farthest throw in school history. Hillevi Carlsson added a 13th-place finish (58.35m, 191-5).

Two Huskers qualified for the 400mH finals, as Abrielle Artley finished sixth on the women’s side, running 59.17, and James Ledbetter clocked a PR 51.29 for eighth. Berlyn Schutz also moved on to the finals, running 4:17.85 in the women’s 1500m for sixth.

Seth Schnakenberg improved his ninth-farthest hammer throw in school history, throwing 63.10m (207-0) for 13th. Brett Schwartz placed 27th (59.45m, 195-0).

Three Nebraska men are currently in the top 15 of the decathlon, with Brayden Bergkamp in seventh (3,764 pts.), Adria Navajon in ninth (3,693 pts.) and Luke Noland in 14th (3,046 pts.). In the heptathlon, Favour Wanjoku is ninth (3,258 pts.) and Grace Parsons has 2,983 points for 19th.

In the men’s 10,000m, Trevor Acton placed 26th (31:11.26), and Hannes Fahl finished 38th in the men’s 1500m (3:59.53).

Up next, the Huskers continue competition at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships, tomorrow with combined events starting at 11:30 a.m. (CT).
