Nebraska picked to finish 5th in west

The East is going to be a dog fight in the coming years. Penn State, Michigan, and Rutgers are recruiting very well. Maryland and Michigan State are taking measures to improve. Indiana is making serious noise. Of course, they are all battling for second.

I think it would be good in the long term for the B10 if Michigan and Purdue switched divisions, even though an annual game between U of M and OSU would not be guaranteed. Better balance.

If it was ANYONE but Frost, Nebraska fans would be calling for the head coaches head after seeing this ranking. Wasn’t all that long ago fans wouldn’t have fathomed being below the likes of Minnesota and Northwestern. And even a decade ago we would have thought being below Wisky and Iowa would have been crazy most years. Yet here we are.
The bar is soooo low a worm can't get under it.

Dochterman: Jim Delany’s original plan of a nine-game schedule to “play each other more, not less,” add at least one Power 5 nonconference opponent and eliminate FCS games backfired. The eye test has trumped criteria for the CFP committee. This year, 13 of the 14 Big Ten teams will play at least 10 Power 5 opponents. Only one of 14 in the SEC will do so. That’s a huge advantage for the SEC toward playoff qualification. With the likelihood of a 12-team playoff in 2023, the Big Ten’s primary goal should be to gain as many CFP berths as possible. To get on equal ground with the SEC, the Big Ten should cut league play to eight games. Then, it should eliminate divisions, schedule three permanent opponents for each school and cycle through the other 10 teams two years on, two years off. If there’s a ninth game, incorporate the champions week concept so teams three and four have a shot at a quality data point.

East and West could be done in the future?

We will know on August 28 if this is accurate or not.

If our 4 year starter QB continues to perform like a slow blinker, if we draw penalty after penalty after penalty due to mental mistakes, if our special teams units again look like they have never practiced together nor received coaching of any kind, and if our #1 offensive weapon is our QB running all over the place -- then nothing has changed and 5th in the division might be generous.

Delaney was interested in tv money by promising more games to sell as a package. He had no interest in the playoff.

This conference is about academics and money, not winning football championships.

***IF*** the Big10 expands they could do what's being talked/guessed about in the **potentially new" SEC and go to Pods...

I think the Huskers will be better than most people think this year and 5th in the west is too low. But, if we do finish 5th in the west, that will probably mean another losing record and no bowl game. Yikes.

And possibly a head coaching change. Let's hope we finish higher than 5th.
