Nebraska opens as -18 pt. underdog against Michigan

Honestly better than I thought it would be
But I think this will be a lot of closer of a game than most “experts” think it will be. Hopefully these past couple of weeks were a good reality check and they get locked in and focused and play like we should be playing

I dont care what the score is, as long as we come out and attack and dont play scared like we did for OSU and PSU the past 3 years

Under 21 is a gift if Bunch is the QB
This. With Bunch this could get ugly. With Martinez we have a fighting chance.

I actually think that a road game is what this team needs. With all of the emotion and hype surrounding Frost's return I think our first two home games came with a lot of distractions for the players. Hopefully, a road game against a big name opponent will focus the guys more.

If we play solid defense and if we play better on the offensive line and if Martinez is the QB, I think we might have a chance. But those are all very, very big "ifs"

With Michigan being their own worst enemy lately I have this goofy upset special kind of feeling about this one. UM is far and away the more talented team, -18 on paper should be more than generous.

I don't think NU is going to be able to move the ball on them unless AM just plays out of his mind and is out there making plays he has no business making and turning busts into chunk plays.

I would take the under. It's gambling. Bet what you can afford to lose. If you can't afford to lose it don't bet.

NU would have been easily 2-0 if the Colorado player didn’t intentionally hurt Adrian’s knee by twisting his ankle on his last play. If AM finished the game, NU would have won. And of course if AM played against Troy, there is no way in the world we would lose that game. Bunch looked everything like a walk-on without any experience. We could only wish that Gebbia stuck with NU. In Frost’s system he would need 2 equally good QBs to last the whole season. I wish Frost has named Gebbia as the starter and slowly bring AM into the plays.

Well, if your point is that we are better than our record shows, then I agree. But there is no guarantee Martinez would have gotten us that final touchdown. I do think though that we would have beaten Troy had he played.

I agree with Pennyhusker in that a road game is what this team needs. Not that it will be enough to win the game, or even to cover the spread, but I think there could be a rallying factor that comes from being in a hostile environment.

Nothing has been normal about this season. A road trip might be the most normal thing these guys have seen in a while.

Pretty sure that spread assumes that your backup QB will continue to play. That line's gonna drop like pornstar panties if/when AM gets cleared to play.

Regardless of AM's playing status, I wouldn't be surprised if SF and the entire team are itching to get away from Memorial stadium. The adoration and the yearning for wins must be absolutely stifling in Lincoln. If AM plays, I actually see SF cutting loose and going for the jugular. There's nothing Michigan has shown to indicate they are superior, not even in their recent win against smu. Michigan is a paper tiger this year and is being setup for a spectacular fall. Would love to watch you guys with Martinez at the helm take on Harbaugh's boys. This might be the one year where your team plays better in away games than at home.

I hope you are right about Michigan. So far they have not been overly impressive. Nevertheless, they have looked better than we have!

Patterson has shown the ability to go out there and lose a game, but that front 7 for Michigan is still really freaking good and the NU o-line just isn't. If NU wins that game it's because Martinez is just transcending time and space.

uhh patterson has had the second best qb efficiency in the big 10 behind Haskins. yes... hes been better than Mcsorely. he will be the best qb Nebraska has faced so far this year.

I didn't get to see him lately, but he looked like he had the yips in addition to cramps at the end of that ND game. I'm certainly not calling the NU upset, I think more likely UM easily covers that 18 because our offense won't be able to stay on the field and the defense will wear down and make mental errors.

I think AM has a bright future with this team but there offensive line is going to hold the team back. I watched Michigan this past weekend against smu and Patterson is legit. I dont know if Michigan covers the spread because I do think SF will have the team fired up.But that Michigan front 7 is going to be rough for the oline.

As a michigan fan, Trust me we're overrated...Harbaugh calls plays like its 1970 and we can't stop a running QB, esp on 3rd and long.

I am guessing a closer game. I dont think they spent too much time preparing for Troy. OL and DL didnt play too bad against Colorado then shits the bed against Troy. Came in thinking Troy would be a cake walk. Frosts playbook is severely shortened with no backup QB. I dont think Bunch has been too bad for a Frosh 4th stringer. Typical mistakes to be expected. If Bunch had a backup then they could open the playbook. If AM pays I think its a 10 point UM win. Shortened playbook with Bunch, 24 point UM win.

Whoa whoa whoa!!!! Michigan fan here, and we have more problems than a mid level algebra book. We've lost to Colorado before, too. Both of our teams will continue to (albeit really slowly) improve as the season goes on. Good luck and safe travels this weekend.

well, we got 99 problems and algebra aint one of em...

Props for the Astro physics reference. Well played.

Say what? They used a full week preparing for Troy. Just like they did for Colorado, just like they will for every other opponent remaining on the schedule (with the possible exception of the bye week).

I would not risk a dime betting this game but I do think the smart money is Nebraska to cover with either QB.

Well as a long time Husker fan, trust me you guys will get the W on this one. We’ve got the right head coach but we just aren’t ready yet. We’re rebuilding, there are too many turnovers and mental mistakes to clean up right now. We’ll get there in time.

NU would be 3-0 if only we had played Akron. Damn weather!

That's assuming AM is close to 100% or even plays. Bottom line, we're still inferior in the trenches on both sides against quality opponents. We're showing signs of improvement already, but holes still exist in the starting lineup and our depth ranges from lacking to non-existent.

This is going to be a broken record for NU fans, but until/unless we can consistently recruit and develop solid O- and D-linemen with at least one (and ideally 2-3) vying for AA honors annually, we'll continue to be an average team at best.

So if the OL and DL come out and play lights out or at least as good as they did against Colorado you will still believe that they spent equal amounts of time preparing for Troy as they will any other team?

I dont see how they ply that well against Colorado then shit the best against troy if they did indeed prepare properly for them.

What say you?

easily could be if we turn the ball over, make dumb penalties and screw up on special teams.

That said, I've watched Michigan twice and don't think they are all that special (ND isn't a world-beater this year, IMO)

Michigan fan here, here's a perspective on the game from what some of the advanced metrics say.
Michigan
s&p+: Offense 38, Defense 7, Overall 10
massey-peabody: Offense 22, Defense 3, Overall 7
FPI: 8
Sagarin: 12

Nebraska
s&p+: offense #45, Defense #58, Overall #45.
FPI: 72
Sagarin: 66

So I think the -18 line is right, but Im not going to say Im comfortable when we know what Frost's offenses are capable of. That being said Michigan's defense hasn't yet shown the level of dominance it is capable of, most metrics say they are better the Buckeyes , and maybe only a notch below Bama.

I woulnd't despair husker fans, UCF's offense was rated #117 in the s&p+ in 2016, the next year they were #2. That is a remarkable turn around, and they had the #7 defense to boot. Nebraska has more talent than any other team in the B1G west, I fully expect them to take over Wisconsin's role as the annual contender from that division.

18 seems high.

I'm picking Michigan to win by 2 scores, something along the line of 27-13. Solid but I am hoping for more especially with Nebraska's troubles at QB.

Michigan's O-line is positively cringe worthy and the only way that Patterson will have a chance is if he is rolling out. There is just no time in the pocket the pass blocking is that bad. If he does (roll out) I see it being a long day for the Huskers as they are struggling against the pass.

Note: He is good rolling out to his weak side.

If Nebraska can keep him in the pocket this is going to be a 17-14 slobber knocker.

Go Blue!
