Nebraska has scored 0 points in the 1st quarter of 6 of the 9 games this year

this is an interesting tidbit from today's presser:

Coach Rhule challenged Coach Satt to give Emmet Johnson more touches

hopefully he can get a lather going and mr pitter patter doesn't cycle in as much

This statement bugs me on so many levels. As the HC, Rhule should dictate to the coaches what he wants. If he sees they're constantly doing something he disagrees with (e.g., giving Grant and Johnson even carries, even though one is doing better than the other), then maybe he needs to tell the coaches to stop that BS (or find himself new assistants who can see the obvious).

Please make it so, we need more of a running game from our backs. Some of that is on the OC

It's a transition season so I'm not too alarmed by the slow starts. If Nebraska were really competing for something this season, I'd be far more alarmed. However, they're playing so many young guys that they weren't expecting to be counted on this season that I feel like context is crucial in any assessment of the offensive coaching staff this season. They've got 2nd, 3rd string players starting or playing important roles all over the offense. Get them experience this year, hopefully sneak into a bowl game and coach them up with the extra bowl practices. Use this season as a springboard for next season and develop the guys you've got playing. It may not pay dividends this season or next but we could be looking back in a couple seasons and realize how important the growing pains were this year to improving the team in the years ahead.

Satt's record as OC:
Temple 2013 - 74th in total offense
Temple 2014 - 117
Temple 2015 - 96
S. Caro 2021 - 111
S. Caro 2022 - 71
Neb 2023 - 113 (so far)

You sure you want to throw stones at the Satt critics?
needs a little more context

Temple was more I formation, control the game type offense vs the highflying offenses of the Pac and Big XII.

We need that 6th win. Get that and I am satisfied with the season overall. Vintage Husker fan in me is disappointed with current Husker fan me, but it is what it is

Why is this the first I’m hearing complaints about our offense:cool:?

Other things I’ve observed; we seem to have one good TD drive each game. Other TD’s seem to require a big play or help from the opponent. That’s a bit of an exaggeration, but we look so damn good about one drive a game. The rest…

I mean, if they could complete passes, not drop passes and not fumble it might look a bit different. Also, the running back situation is kinda F'd right now.

We’ve been starting 0 seniors, 2 juniors and 9 freshman and sophomores on offense. Many of them weren’t starting until the last 2-3 games. We’re playing big boy football. It’s not Satterfield. Blame the past regime and bad luck with injuries.

And that has nothing to do with this year’s offense. Is his previous record great? Nope. Is it fair to blame him for this years struggles? Hell no

Not solely, but the offense is the sum of its parts, and he’s a part

When the HC has to urge him to play/feature certain guys, it’s not nothing

Can Satt and co. come up with some better game plans to get ahead and make teams play catch up on our good defense?
If scripted plays throw those away. I know they like to see how defenses are going to react but we can't afford to throw possessions away

We have a shockingly low number of TD "drives". We simply are not good enough to string together 10+ consecutive plays more than once a game or so. We need to embrace the reality and take more deep shots. A GREAT down to take a few shots would be 3rd and short. It might catch the defense by surprise, and it's really low risk considering the state of our passing game and the fact that even if we convert via a short gain, we're probably just punting 3 plays later anyway.

I'm expecting a barnburner between IA and NE in a few weeks.

Might be the lowest over/under ever.

Very well could be 0-0 after the first half.

Satt has schemed up a ton of would be successful plays that our guys just can’t execute. We had guys open everywhere vs msu. Opening play vs NW was a td to Fidone. Can’t blame a the coordinator when he has a QB that can’t throw, an oline that can’t block, wr’s that are mostly freshman and defenses know it.
