Nebraska fans both far and near have been bamboozled by the perceived lack of production from our 4 star recruits. Inspired by a recent poster who said [paraphrased] "Would John Raridon not be playing if he went to Iowa?", I went back and took a look at how the 4 stars who visited and went elsewhere turned out since we joined the Big Ten. I only went up to the 2017 class as the jury is mostly out on 2018 and beyond. I'm not really sure what to make of it, but it seems like the problem has been just as much with targeting the right players as it has with developing players once they get here. Not sure that's earth shattering news, but I was curious.

2011:
- Nebraska signs 11 4 star recruits.
  • Damian Stafford becomes a 1st team all Big Ten player
  • Zach Sterup, Ryne Reeves, Tyler Moore and David Santos (latter 2 transfer) become starters at some point in their career.
  • Jamal Turner and Aaron Green (transfer) contribute
  • Ryan Klatchko, Charles Jackson, Bubba Starling, and Todd Peat Jr never do much of anything.
- 4 4 stars who visited go elsewhere.
  • Tevin Mitchel (Arkansas) starts at CB and ends up getting drafted.
  • Wayne Lyons (S) starts/contributes at Michigan and Stanford
  • AC Leonard (TE,Florida) and Cyrus Hobbi (OC,USC) are thrown off or quit their respective teams.
2012
-Nebraska signs 6 4 stars
  • Zaire Anderson and Jordan Westerkamp earn various all conference honors
  • Greg McMullen is a multiyear starter
  • Alonzo Moore contributes
  • Mo Seisay and Paul Thurston don't go a heck of a lot and Thurston moves on
- 14 4 or 5 stars go elsewhere after visiting
  • Ronnie Stanley (ND), Andrus Peat (Stanford), and Jonathon Bullard (Florida) all earn all conference or all American honors. Stanley OT and Peat OT go first round and Bullard DE goes 3rd
  • DJ Foster (RB,ASU), Devin Fuller (WR,UCLA), Ladarell McNeil (S,Tennessee), Shiro Davis (DE,Texas), Evan Goodman (OT,ASU), and Marcus Rios (CB,UCLA) are all starters at some point, though Fuller is the only NFL pick of the bunch in the 7th.
  • Jordan Diggs (S,SCAR), Quanzell Lambert (DE,Rutgers), Brandon Beavers (CB,Washington), Anthony Alford (QB,USM) and Devian Shelton (CB, USC) never amount to much.
2013
-Nebraska signs 5 4 stars
  • Randy Gregory is an All American and 2nd rounder. Terrell Newby is HM all conference as a senior.
  • Marcus Newby and Josh Banderas start
  • Adam Taylor spends his whole career injured
-11 4 star visitors go elsewhere
  • Corey Clement (RB,Wisconsin) earns all Big 10 honors
  • Quincy Adeboyjo (WR,Ole Miss) starts several years
  • Damore'ea Stringfellow (WR,Ole Miss/Washington), Priest Willis (S,TAMU/UCLA), Lavon Hooks (DT,Ole Miss), Marcus McWilson (S,Kentucky), and Kenny Lacy (OT, UCLA) are at best spot contributors on their respective teams
  • Dashon Hunt (CB,Or St), Beau Sandland (TE, Montana State/Miami), and James Clark (Wr Va Tech/Ohio State) and Christian Morris (OT, Tennessee St/Ole Miss/UCLA) never amount to anything.
2014
-Nebraska lands 4 4 stars
  • Nick Gates is HM All Big Ten
  • Tanner Farmer starts
  • Mikale Wilbon basically does nothing and Monte Harrison literally does nothing
- 10 4 stars visit and go elsewhere
  • Ricky Walker (Va Tech) is a 2x all conference DT and Kalen Ballage (RB,ASU), despite never being great at football, goes in the 4th round
  • Brandon Powell (RB, Florida) is a regular contributor
  • Madre London (RB, Tennessee/Michigan State), Terrell Clinkscales (DT, TAMU-Commerce/KSU), Abu Lamin (DT, Scar), Erik Brown (WR, Utep/Cal), Eric Lauderdale (WR, ASU), Kenyon Frison (OT, Oklahoma), and Raymond Minor (OLB, Va Tech) do a whole lot of nothing at their respective schools.
2015
- Nebraska reels in 6 4 stars
  • Kahlil Davis is HM All Big Ten and Stanley Morgan is 2x All BIG
  • Eric Lee is a spot contributor
  • Avery Anderson, Jalin Barnett, and Jordan Stevenson are total busts
- 6 4 stars visit and go elsewhere
  • Lamar Jackson (QB, Louisville) wins the Heisman and goes in the 1st round
  • Kahlil Haughton (S, OU) starts as a senior. Brian Cole (S Miss St/Michigan) and Zach Robertson (OT, ASU) break through as starters late in their careers as well.
  • Jason Lewis (RB, EKU/ASU) and Deshawn Raymond (CB, TCU) are total flops.
2016
- 4 4 stars are N
  • Lamar Jackson starts and is likely an All Big Ten (HM or maybe actual team) selection this season.
  • Marquel Dismuke starts and is meh
  • POB transfers and Raridon never plays
-5 4 stars go elsewhere
  • Desmond Fitzpatrick (WR, Louisville) has basically started 3 years.
  • Markell Simmons (S, TCU) sporadically starts.
  • Nathan Smith (OT, USC), Jaleel Laguins (LB, Samford/UGA), and Darian Owens (WR, TAMU-Commerce/Marshall/UCLA) do nothing.
2017
-Nebraska lands 7 4 stars
  • McQuitty is on the team
  • KJJ, Gebbia, Blades, Roberts, Lindsey, and Guy Thomas are all gone.
- 19 visit and go elsewhere
  • Jaylon Johnson (CB, Utah), Thomas Graham (CB, Oregon), Donovan Peoples Jones (WR, Michigan), and Isaiah Hodgins (WR, Oregon State) and Corrion Ballard (S, Utah) all snag all conference honors
  • Deommodore Lenoir (CB, Oregon), Bryan Thompson (WR, Utah), Jaylon Redd (RB/WR, Oregon), Foster Sarrell (OT, Stanford), Jamire Calvin (WR, Wazzu) and Isaac Slade Matautia (LB, Oregon) all start for their respective teams.
  • Greg Johnson (CB, USC) has played a bit. Chevin Calloway (CB, SMU/Arkansas) quit Arkansas 2 games in to transfer, but he started.
  • Jeremiah Holloman (WR, FIU/UGA), Alaric Williams (RB, GCCC/Auburn), Rahyme Johnson (OLB, SJSU/UCLA), Randall Grimes (WR, UNLV/USC), Joseph Lewis (WR, Jail/USC) and Chuck Filiaga (OG, Michigan) haven't done anything. Well, maybe Holloman who proceeded to get tossed for assaulting a woman.
