If a player wants more money, can’t they just go to 1890 and say “I want more money.” Is it necessary they go the portal route? I’m sure they think it puts pressure on the team they are pretending to leave to up the anty, but in the process, they make themselves look like nothing more than a prostitute, willing to service anyone for the right amount of money.

As suspected some of these players were just angling for more NIL money. I guess that's the power of a free market which is what college football has become.
Some of the ones who entered but are not back out may have tried that and found out they aren't getting more to stay.

College athletics is not a "free market", as that requires payment for a good or a service with a contract to for specific performance and outcome from that good and service. We will have to get to this for it to work without ruining college athletics. In the meantime, some kids are going to get a reality check and others are going to get a bag of cash without any commitment to perform.

Yes, that's the risk some of those players face, especially with the limited roster sizes now. And Rhule said he won't take back some players who entered the portal.

Yep. I would hate coaching in this new world of college athletics. Everyone's a free agent looking for the next biggest payday. Sad.

Players have been exploited while schools and the ncaa have benefited for a long time. I don't hate the players at all, this could be their once in a lifetime chance to get some life changing money.

I don't hate the players. I hate the system. It will ruin college athletics in the end.

I'm not against players getting paid to sign autographs, sit for a few hours at a dealership, visit a high school or other facility etc... .

I'm not against a stipend for players who earn something by their actions on and off the field.

I'm against an 18 year old who hasn't proven shit, selling himself out to the highest bidder. I'm against kids jumping from team to team just to make a few more dollars. I'm against schools and donors wasting millions of dollars on amature athletes through exhorbonate payouts.

The whole thing stinks

I agree, but because the system is so bad, it does make me dislike a lot of players. They just get annoying with the victim card and the entitlement that they should be owed millions while in college. I know the world has changed, but it sucks that kids who used to play the game for fun and love of the game now only really play it for money. I know there are outliers, but hate that CFB has become just solely about money.

Agreed. Sad. I don't believe it can last. I just don't see how the money can continue to pour in like this year over year. At some point something will have to give.
