Damn, up like usual but it is Saturday morning. So want to gather some thoughts. Sorry it is kind of long. Buggeaters story prompted me to share.

My wife’s car got broken into while in a parking facility in downtown Omaha. Her wallet was stolen. No clue why she chose to leave her wallet in the car for the two hours she ran into her office. That is a different discussion.

Anyway, the thief used my debit card at a parking meter (I’m sure to see if it would work) and then at the gas station downtown. Used her card at Jimmy John’s downtown. We got the credit cards stopped before they were used.

Early last week we saw photos of who appeared to be the thief. Pretty good color photos.

On Thursday the downing library called and said they found my wife’s license.

Then on Friday, I had to go to the police station and Fire headquarters for work. Wife went a long to get her license. Kids are out of school, so our grade school son and daughter went along as they wanted to go to the fire station with me. Wife got her license and I finished my stops. After we left, we drove around downtown.

We were at the northwest corner of the library and there thief was. Walked right across the street in front of us. Dressed exactly like he was in the video. We were in the curb lane and threw my car into park and jumped out and grab the guy. My wife screamed and I stopped before getting too far. I realized then I couldn’t with them with me. We followed him around a bit and hesitated in calling 911 as I was not sure this qualified.

We followed him until he sat with what appeared other transient’s across from downtown Food Mart. The entire time we followed him we were looking for the police and never saw any.

We went around the corner to the Police station and there was a plain clothed officer walking in front. I forced the wife to talk to her. I waited about a couple minutes and left her there with the officer and went back to see where the thief was. It took me another couple minutes to go around the corner to where he was and when I got to the corner, there was already two police cars at the location where he was talking to the people he was talking too. Unfortunately, he was gone. Wow they got there fast.

The officers that responses then went to station and got info from the wife. My wife then met with a detective as there were others hit the same day. Can’t say more but they were great.

We left and drove around some more. We saw several police cars around the area and saw at least three officers walking and on bikes. No news yet if they found him but I bet they do.

Huge props to the men and women at OPD. They could have brushed us off for such a minor thing but no, they were unbelievably great. I got their names and am going to send a letter to the Chief to compliment them.

Then yesterday, my wife’s wallet was found under a bush in Gene Leahy mall. The man that found it, sent it to our address with a nice note. Note, basically saying that was the least he could do and that he hoped if someone found his they’d so the same. All her checks still there with insurance cards.
