  1. Urban Meyer — you make the man say no. He is the best guy out there, go get him. Yes, he might only be here a short time, but he can turn things around.
  2. Luke Fickell — Also a homerun. Would likely jump to OSU if given the chance.
  3. Dave Aranda — Understands the B1G 10, understands smash mouth defense. I would love this but then, I love smash mouth defenses 😁
  4. Jamey Chadwell — this is my take-a-flyer, leap-of-faith, next-big-thing. Hasn’t run a P5 program. Not sure we should do it, but he is an interesting pick.
I am not interested that much in G5 coaches or P5 coordinators. I mean maybe Todd Monken or Alex Grinch, but then why not take a flyer on Mickey (assuming he turns things around)?

What it comes down to for me is that my first 4 choices (well top 3 for sure) have the ability to put this program back on a footing competing for div/conf titles and with the expanded playoffs, a shot.

Most of the others I think are top-limited 8-9 win guys or have a ton of risk.

My HC list:

1 - Urban

2 - I have no #2

Indians used to call Chimney Rock "Elk Penis" (they had no idea what a Chimney was) which would coincidently match the bulge in my pants if we got my #1

I do love that CC offense...I feel like THAT should've been the natural evolution of TO's offense vs what Solich did, as well as Frost's bungling of the concept.

Even though he's a G5 coach, he's probably the only one I wouldn't argue at all if he was the guy picked for the job. We seriously could do much worse.

I'd just add Leipold to your list, as well as Jeff Grimes who is the OC for Baylor who is largely behind their explosive offense last year. Not sure what happened to it this year, but I'm sure it's still TBD.

I’m not sold on Leipold yet. I get it, I do, I’m just not there yet. He doesn’t have the P5 track record yet of my other choices. I would put him as a flyer with Chadwell.

I don’t understand folks’ Leipold or bust positions because he’s done what, exactly? He’s 3-0 at Kansas this year? Just on his record alone he was 37-33 at Buffalo and is 5-10 at Kansas. Yeah.. seems like a good get at rebuilding the foundation of Nebraska football to compete with USC, Ohio State, Michigan, etc.

Do folks not want Nebraska to be good and great again or what

I understand but who are you going to get. Your roster is in need of a total rebuild from the ground up. Everywhere Leipold has been he has left it better than he found it. He is a consistent patient builder that has ties to your state and program. You need a proven college head coach IMO not a coordinator who is more of a risk. Myer ain’t coming. Fickell and Campbell probably doubtful. Rhule could be a possibility but my guess is if he gets canned (big wait with the NFL season) by the Panthers he stays in the east or goes south. Dark horse would be Tom Herman who is a solid coach with ties to the region who could recruit TX. Plus he has logged some NFL time. You could throw a ton of $ at Lane Kiffin but not sure he would want the job the way things are going at Ole Miss. Dave Doeren and Dave Clawson are both solid. You may laugh but Chris Creighton at Eastern Michigan is highly respected and experienced and has won in very difficult places. Aranda might be a possibility.

Been a winner at every one of his stops.

Let’s see how he does playing Oklahoma, texass, Okie State,Baylor and Iowa state..

I think we can all agree that the B1G 10, for the most part, is a grind it out 4-5 yds/play kind of conference. What concerns me with some of the names bounced around is that a new HC is likely to bring his OC/DC along that either have no idea how to create such a offense when needing to do so or defend one consistently. Aranda keeps showing up at the top of my list that can have above average results in the shortest period of time.

He went 109-6 and won 6 national championships at Wisconsin Whitewater.
Was the first Buffalo coach to go over .500 since 1968. Gave Buffalo their only two bowl wins in program history.
Already has more wins at Kansas than Les Miles did.

Is he the answer to bring back Nebraska?? Zero clue. But if Urban or Aranda don’t want the job, then I’d be more than okay with trying Leipold over Campbell or O’Brien (if Leipold continues that success the rest of this season).

I believe the top 3 on my list could rip up Big 10 defenses which is the first thing I'd be looking for in a new coach.

My list:

1. Urban
2. Mullen
3. Herman
4. Petersen
5. Deboer
6. Aranda
7. Leipold
8. Fickell
9. Rhule/BoB/Campbell
10. Don't really care at this point

I personally don't think we'll get any of the popular names out there. Which is fine. I just want an HC who will establish a hard working/winning culture, knows how to manage a game, and will hire the best staff of coordinators/assistants in the country. Which means solid scheme for the B1G and excellent recruiters.

How come no one ever brings up Hugh Freeze? Yes recruiting violations at Ole Miss. NIL has taken care of that. Yes phone calls to escort services. FWIW He is now a born again Christian coaching at a Christian school and winning.
Top 5 recruiting class at Ole Miss. Beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa. 1 of 3 coaches ever to beat Bama in back to back years.
Was 10-1 in 2020 and beat Coastal Carolina in bowl game.
Only going to be 53.
2-1 this year. Beat Southern Miss and UAB whom beat GA Southern. Lost by 1 to Wake as they missed the 2pt conversation. Something I'm missing?

I really like this list. I would make a few changes:

1. Urban
2. Peterson
3. Kiffin
4. Mullen
5. Aranda
6. Deboer
7. Leipold
8. Rhule/BoB/Fickell
9. Campbell/Klieman

I like this list, although I generally fold Leipold into the Chadwell situation, guys who are just flyers but have some things in the plus column that make you go "what if". You might include Mickey in that pool as well, I just don't see him wowing anyone with metrics this year, he'd be an intangibles hire for sure.

Dark horse consideration I'd probably give to Herman. Not sure what to feel about that guy, was a super hot name, didn't wow at Texas which is a resource rich program. But we don't appear to be pursuing the top names, and he's a guy with Midwest coaching experience that is a non-offensive choice for ADs.

You guys would be lucky to have Freeze leave Liberty for Lincoln. Herman may take a last desperate attempt at a career by going there. Bienemy cant get a HC gig anywhere, so he might take the job there. Urban will have many other better jobs to pick from. No SEC coach is is leaving for the B1G, much less for the worst job in the B1G. Leipold has said he’s at KU for the long haul, twice now. Campbell wouldn’t go there, just positioning for more money, same as Aranda.

This board really needs an “eye roll” emoji.

Do you think ISU, Baylor or KU would match 10 million a year?

The idiot speaks.

And your point is.

Were discussing a poster H/C list and others choices..Who do you want since you chimed in..
As I've said all along and it's only my list which means nothing but since you asked here it is:
1. Meyer
2. Leipold
3. Pittman

Just so you know my list of these three is interchangeable.

Might as well take Meyers name off the list. He will never coach here

Your man is Jeff Monken—Army!!

1) Lance Liepold - Winner, Leader, Program Builder, Roots in the Midwest and upper Midwest
2) Broncho Mendenhall - Leader, voluntarily took a year off from coaching and is re-energized, no contract buyout so that money can be used to hire the best coordinators: Jeff Grimes as OC (OL coach under Broncho at BYU in 2006/06); Mike Tressel as DC, 14 year history at MSU, very familiar with BIG
3) Tom Herman - Winner, Roots in Midwest and Texas, no contract buyout so that money can be used to hire the best coordinators.

This would be great to have if you went the following.

Mickey = HC - WR (6M)
Bronco = D Coordinator (3M)
Herman = OC (3M)

Other Assistants.

Matt Rhule ( who I think will be fired from the Panthers at some point this year ) is atop my wish list. Turned a Temple program who couldn't beat Little Sisters of the poor into a winner. Solid track record of turning teams around. I would love Urban, but Rhule is Urban lite without the baggage.
