You never even got started.
So, sooner than you think.

All of those National Championship Trophys....
And Heisman winners...

Soon.
Never going to happen, you're not in the small money league anymore. This is big boy money league son, you better start understanding that quick. It was easy to push around the ISU's, colorado's K-states, etc. You've learned that money is really important.

As a Husker fan...we should shut up. Scoreboard is all that matters. Period. The 90's were awesome and I was glad I was in school during that time...but right now we (husker fans) are the dorks because the team sucked so bad because of Riley...hopefully that changes.

No one cares what happened 20 years ago...it is like bragging about nailing the hottest girl in high school...20 years later.

Is Iowa is STILL playing ISU every year?

Also something no one cares about...

Look, right now Iowa is an ugly girl and NU is an uglier girl...two ugly girls arguing over who is hotter just means no one wins...
I just want you to know that we care. We care about all of our B1G brothers and sisters.

As I said ... more power to Kirk if you can get it and kudos to him for the donations. I just find it odd that a power 5 school would set the bar at a 61.5% winning percentage (8-5) to trigger a half million dollar performance bonus - which equates to finishing unranked and 3rd place in the division.

Fear of the unknown...they would rather have what they know.

Iowa's new tradition of waving at the kids and turning their cell phone flashes on has very quickly turned into the best tradition in college football. Made me pretty misty-eyed when I watched that piece on the new tradition and Ferentz losing his granddaughter...

We agree with you there. It should be at least 10 wins. Why they continue to make such crazy deals with Kirk is a mystery to us as well.

It's pretty amazing, I was actually at the game where they first did this. It was kind of funny because the actual FIRST wave was done before it was time to actually do it, fans or program got confused. So we had to do it again. Pretty amazing to see it in person, the video and pictures don't do it justice.

Seriously the best contract of all time for an employee.
And worst for the employer.
I respect your opinion here, but I would have to disagree with you.

He's not the worst for the employer here. He is more than meeting the expectation of his employer. They are both happy. And financially, they are both doing just fine.

So it Can't be the Worst, when both the employer and the employee are happy and prosperous. :)

Keep in mind Kirk’s base salary is 4.25 million. The 500k bonus to hit 8 wins still doesn’t get Ferentz up to Scott Frost’s new base salary. I’m actually more impressed with Chindander being paid more than Phil Parker. And as others have said, the 1.5 mil/year for Bo and 2 mil/year for Riley. Fleeced indeed.

I think many of the responses were on point but let me add this, Tom Davis was let go as BB coach because he couldn’t keep the best in state talent, they were going to Kansas.
A lot of why he makes so much is rooted in more than wins and losses, Kirk does well in keeping in state talent so that is right now as important as wins. No recruiting violations, good graduation rate, develops players. He represents the University and State well which we all know can become an embarrassment if left unchecked.

The goal every year is to win the Conference and to compete for the National Championship, 2 years ago they were rated as high as #3. A lot of coaches contracts are bypassing what he makes. I was never one to bitch about his compensation package because someone with more insight than I have felt it was fair, the University has the money so they can spend whatever they want imo.

Say the fans paying a coach more annually than Kirk for winning at a program that George O'Leary also took to a BCS level bowl game 3 years ago! Rich Rod 2.0

Look...right now you guys have scoreboard on us in a big way...we have no comeback except for "ohhhh the 90s" which no one cares about...enjoy it.

Who the f you calling son?
You are a iowa fan.
Don't be talking to me about big boy money.

Won that award while coaching a different school not Nebraska. My god some posters on this board think Nebraska has something to do with his award.

Learn how to comprehend.Never said anything about Nebraska.o_O

Said HIS Coach of the year award.

Ferentz has other bonuses attached to his contract (graduation rate, conference champion, final top 10 ranking, bowl wins, etc.). These bonuses are also present for his assistants (I think). I also thought this was common practice with college football coaches when generating coaching contracts. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

Pretty much this.

He wins a lot and does it with class and great character. Would I like us to win more and have more championships under him?,...of course, but not if it completely sacrifices all morals and dignity. Look at other schools constantly scrambling after yet another bad hire every 3-4 years.

The major gripe most Iowa fans have is his lack of big-time emphasis on recruiting and some really bad in-game and clock management skills. I think those are reasonable knocks on him and the program. Hard to argue his player development (sans QB) and his overall body of work.

While Ferentz makes crazy money, it's hard to see how he's fleecing the University of Iowa. They know exactly what they have in Ferentz - if they overvalue him, so be it. Iowa clearly doesn't want to be a stepping-stone job and they don't want to pay guys like Bo Pelini and Mike Riley not to work there anymore. So it seems like a happy relationship.

Yeah the contract is quite one-sided. The last extension after the 2015 season was basically a lifetime deal. No reason for the length of it at that point, as Ferentz was unlikely to go elsewhere in his 60s. That said, the contract isn't terrible as long as Ferentz wins 8 games and gets 1-2 more 10-win seasons and division titles before he moves on.

Just so I have this straight...we are talking about Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz, right?
