Morale of this team?

After Ohio State this weekend you gotta wonder what the moral is of this team. I believe that we will have enough fight left to pull out a 10-2 season together, but it will be very close wins from here on out. What do you all think?

Blow outs are never good for morale but you know what you did last week was not good enough so time to try harder. I think the D and ST will be fine. Offense is on life support due to oline, TA's status, and just flat being out of sync. Gotta find something that works and wear it out.

I'm much more concerned about the D than I am the O. The D requires all out energy and emotion. I think the offensive numbers were obviously affected by A) the loss of Tommy midway through the second and B) the inability to get Ohio State out of the end zone. Let's just say Tommy hadn't been removed, there was a decent likelihood that they'd score on that drive to make the score 24-10, possibly going into the locker room with that score. There was absolutely no way with the team a little shocked by both the score and the Tommy injury that they were going to do much else offensively, but the way the D just had wide open play after play, that is where my concerns lie going into the Minnesota game.

All depends on Tommy....He is this team's confidence.

This was huge IMO on Saturday. Can't underestimate what losing TA at that point of the game did to the defenders psyche. Knowing for a week that he may or may not play if nothing else helps the defenders prepare mentally. Not a great comparison, but this Minnesota game is potentially the 1994 Kansas State game, but at home. The Defense knows from the get go they will have to win the game before kickoff.

I think some people assume that a blowout hurts the psyche of a team more than it does. Two years ago, Wisconsin got beat 59-0 by Ohio State in the B1G championship game. Then less than a week later, they lose their head coach. They still won their bowl game over Auburn. Two weeks ago, Arkansas got beat 56-3 by Auburn. This week they blew out Florida at home. That's two recent situations where a team got blown out and then came back and won their next game. I think these guys have been through too much already to let a blowout loss affect their morale that much. Frankly, I think losing close games in heartbreaking fashion has more effect on a team's morale than a blowout loss does.

Great post. I was going to say something similar.

I am hoping the morale is still going to be good as they still control their own destiny. It is not like they are completely out of the running for the B1G championship game. That should still be the goal. But if the morale is that bad, then this season is a joke if they finish 7-5. I think that would kill recruiting and MR would be hearing of some de-commits.

They responded pretty well after getting shellacked by Purdue (albeit wasn't this bad)

Hope I'm wrong but with the OL being like it is and Tommy's status, I could see us losing to Minnesota and Iowa and squeaking out a victory over Maryland. 8-4 ain't terrible but finishing the season 1-4 would suck!

Minnesota is an average team,Iowa is an average team, Maryland is not a good team.

If Nebraska loses any of those games it will be a disappointment. I refuse to build these average B1G teams into something more than they are.

Minnesota has 2 wins against teams with winning records. One of those is Maryland, the other is Colorado St. Maryland has 1 win over a team with a winning record and that team is UCF.
Iowa has 1 win over a team with a winning record and that is Minnesota.

That's all good to know but I'm still very uneasy about the Gopher and Hawkeye games.
