We didn't use Tommy correctly at Wisconsin or it would have been a W. We didn't use him correctly last night.

This staff doesn't know how to use someone like Tommy. They will do much better with a statute that can quick release it into a 4"X4" slot 30 yards away.

However, in college football a properly utilized mobile QB give you superior odds. (Just look at the rankings.)

Alabama doesn't need a mobile QB, they've won titles with a solid (non QB) run game and great defenses. Michigan and Washington do just fine without a mobile QB.

The above are 3 of the top 4 teams in the country.

Wisconsin and Penn State, non mobile QB's.
So, that's half of the top 10. Looking at the remaining 14 teams, your statement isn't supported by the rankings, as you claim.

If a "statue" can complete the passes, bring on the "statue." I love a good mobile QB as much as anyone, but I'm ready for a pocket passer.

False. And what did running the qb a bunch early get us last night?

Armstrong is being used just fine. He is a solid runner but he is pedestrian at best throwing the ball. Look at his numbers in conference. 49.7% 4 TDs 7 picks. The guy can't complete basic passes, with the best receivers this program has ever had. Now he has improved quite a bit and he is vastly superior to Fyfe, but Fyfe wouldn't start for any team in the B1G, maybe FBS. The mobile QB argument is bunk. Alabama won with Jake Coker last year, Connor Cook and Baker Mayfield weren't exactly track stars either. Watson was and he got hammered by Bama in the title game. This staff knows what they are doing. More so than any staff we have had in quite awhile. You don't put 3 QBs in the NFL without knowing a thing or two about coaching.

Alabama also has the best talent in the country. We aren't getting that talent. Most of the teams who have been in the final four teams or championship game in the past 5-10 years have had a mobile Qb outside bama. I'm not saying he has to be Lamar Jackson but it helps you a lot in college football, especially in the red zone. By the way, Bama did find a mobile Qb this year, and will have him for 3 more years. They look as dangerous as ever, and he is only going to get better.

Alabama's QB is an outstanding runner. Clemson, Louisville, Ohio St...The NC will likely come from that group.

Riley in his interview during the Wisconsin game implied we need to use Tommy better on the edge. Never really happened. MR says the right things but staff can't make it happen. Ok. It had a lot to do with our offensive line getting blasted but that is in part due to play calling. They are being set up.

I believe this staff will do better with a 6'4" 225lb quarterback that can put the ball exactly where he wants to on time on screens, outs, slants, deep throws.

I think this will be less fun and at the highest level less powerful than what e.g. Clemson has, but with our staff that is how it is going to have to be be. I keep hearing TO's voice in my head about winter games and passing in this part of the county.

That mobile qb for Alabama is actually their weak link. Give Alabama a qb that could pass the ball this year and nobody would even sniff them.

You need to stick with your day job. I love Tommy for a lot of reasons. However, I am not going to look the other way at his weaknesses. It is in his vision - he can't see the field well, takes D right to the place he wants to go with is eyes, can't see D players underneath, etc., a major area he never developed was his ability to anticipate receivers running open, and his release is very slow. All of this leads to using him in certain ways to avoid exposing him. Thus he tends to look long where he only has two players to look at - his and theirs. The coaches know exactly what they have with Tommy. they are doing the very best they can, the guy is beat up and he can't carry the team like many on here think he should. Good grief he got blasted for running sideways and out of bounds - exactly what I would advise him to do. You are essentially calling these coaches idiots but they know so much more than any of us on here will ever even have a clue about.

His legs won the game last night, and he is a freshman. Bama has plenty of passing qbs on the roster and he beat them out. They must really blow then. The guy is a solid passer for a freshman. Like I said, watch out in the years to come. The added dimension is going to make their offense that much harder to defend with their power run game.

Get great lineman and can give protection any type will work, Ohio State could cook a meal and still have time to throw. We do not yet pass protect to have a Pro Style QB, we will find this out next year so we will see.

The defense won the game and it wouldn't have been close if he were a more competent passer.
