Mo Washington seems to be in trouble

Maybe-IF he was involved in the assualt, which he wasn't. That makes a huge difference.
to repeat, It was consensual sex between teens. It was not sexual assault. The crime is in possessing and sending child porn. He did this while a minor supposedly. Usually most prosecutors handle cases involving teenagers and sex videos judiciously. Still stupid but I know of cases where 17 year old boys assaulted younger boys and all they got was probation and counseling. Pisses me off but that's generally what happens.

Gonna get interesting.

"According to a lead investigator on the case, the University was made aware of the allegations against Washington sometime last fall, but he was allowed to play through the entire season."

Might be a good time to slow our roll on this. Let's see how it plays out before we give the guy the death penalty.
Oh because it's the death penalty if he can't play football for and represent NU?

I can just imagine the patient respect for due process everyone would be preaching if he was Iowa's RB and not ours...

Ironic because if it was a Iowa RB you would probably be on here preaching “innocent until proven guilty.” Laughing

I'd be shocked if it's anything that remotely threatens Frost's job. But it's a very bad look for him and gonna add to that tired look he's always sporting over the coming weeks.

Baffling choice by the staff to brush all that aside. If they were made aware last spring then they continued to stay involved in getting him eligible and working to get him on campus. This all have something to do with Washington changing high schools?

Did you not see this part of the article:

Although she did not report the incident as a rape at the time because she says she felt ashamed, Taylor told NBC Bay Area the video depicts a sexual assault, not a consensual sex act. Taylor alleges the teen boys in the video forced her into having sex after telling her they were going to a fast food restaurant. “They’re driving this way, and I’m like, ‘Jack in the Box is back that way,’” Taylor said. “And I said that probably 30 times to them, and eventually they pulled over at this park, with houses on the left hand side, and they’re like, ‘We’re going to have a threesome.’”

Taylor said she froze, terrified. “That’s when they started to rape me, and while I was being raped, they took a video that I had no idea about.”

lots of problems have come with technology...
why many people want to record their 'activities' is troubling.

Where in this do you get "consensual sex act" exactly?

Taylor alleges the teen boys in the video forced her into having sex after telling her they were going to a fast food restaurant. NBC Bay Area is not naming the teens because they were juveniles at the time and were never charged with sexual assault.

University was made known about this last fall. I guess we will see if he gets in any legal trouble but if not I would not expect him to be released from his scholarship being that he played all of last fall.
That is disappointing and disturbing... considering,IF, the program had all of the facts.

Sending that to a rape victim, IF true is pure evil. Overlooking it IF known about isn’t much better.

I do not care to cheer for him, or marvel at his ability ever again...IF this is true

Again, as a stupid minor he possessed and sent via electronic means video of classmate minors engaged in sex acts. Stupid? Yes. Wrong? Yes. As the father of a teenage girl who has had female friends send pics and videos of themselves to her all I can say is high schoolers are by and large idiots. If we're going to destroy every kid who did this, we would have more kids in jail than in high school. Frankly I don't care one way or another if he's kicked off or he's allowed to stay. I have to trust the legal system and our coach to make those judgements. My gut says if he's remorseful and understands how wrong it was, you give him a second chance.

This is why I don't sleep at night as the father of a 14 year old son. It's tough to get any child (boy or girl) through the teen/college years. At times if feels impossible. I absolutely 100% will be reading this article to my son tonight. This shit is toxic and a stupid childish act can literally ruin your life. I feel bad for the girl and for Maurice. He should be punished, he should not be ruined. Not sure the current atmosphere will allow for anything less.

How do you know the staff just brushed it aside, Mr Jumptoconclusions?

It still doesn't change the crime that Washington committed. Does the video support that it was rape? That's why you leave it up to the judicial system and don't try people on a message board.

Please explain in detail what the staff did about it. Don't say, "made any public acknowledgement of it," "dropped his scholarship" or "didn't play him right away as a true freshman."

An investigator on the case said the Sheriff’s Department has been unable to interview Washington during the months-long investigation after making requests through the University of Nebraska’s Athletic Department, as well as Washington’s former attorney, Jon Bruning, who is the former Attorney General of Nebraska.

The investigator said Bruning questioned whether charges would actually be filed against his client when contacted last fall by the Sheriff’s Department.

“The general air was, ‘Is this really as big of a deal as you’re making it?’” the investigator said. “I explained to him that we do take these cases very seriously. Cases like this can have severe consequences, especially for the victims, throughout their entire lives, and we were investigating wholeheartedly because of that fact.”

Bruning, reached Friday by NBC Bay Area, declined to comment on the case.

If proven true, it is a great shame. If proven untrue, he needs to grow up and be a man. Judging by his twitter videos, the kid has the maturity of a 5th grader. Hopefully, he will make it out of this. If and when he does, he has a lot of soul searching and growing up to do.

Why would they play him all last fall then only to release him now? Those in the actual video got probation. If Washington is even found guilty I can't see him getting more than that. But I'm no lawyer.
Yes, why would they play, or even want a guy with this character flaw in the program...beyond the obvious....the obvious is a piss poor excuse-IF this is true

I seriously doubt that this was a rape or sexual assault in the video. Doesn't matter though, the pressure will be overwhelming to have Mo & possibly Frost gone.

The
I read the article, did you? The word rape is being thrown out by the victim. The video is considered child porn by the State.

A rape on video that ended with the perpetrators getting probation? Sometimes people aren’t proud of what they’ve done when it becomes public knowledge and choose the easiest defense of their own actions. Not saying that’s the case here, but the timelines, legal repruccusions to others, self admitted shame and her reaching out to him suggest that there’s more to it that’s what’s in the article to me. No was wrong to send the video, however he did send it to her, not spread it across the Internet.

Oh is that what I need to do is leave it up to the judicial system? While you say with no evident basis that it was a consensual act, in direct contradiction to a quote from the girl involved?

Is the judicial system going to sentence him to be kicked off the team or is that still not a thing and up to the University to decide based mostly on how they feel it will play in the court of public opinion?

Now your just being ridiculous with the post. “Please explain in detail what the staff did in detail”??? Are you serious with this?? None of us know what Frost or any of the coaches did or didn’t do let alone explain in detail. TheBeav, I tend to like a lot of your posts and agree with them but this is just ridiculous. Your acting like YOU KNOW what happened, and what the coaches did or didn’t do. None of us do, my suggestion is we wait and see how this plays out and let Frost do his presser (which I’m sure he will at some point) and explain what happened and what he knew and didn’t know. Stop chopping heads before you know for sure, 100% for sure, what happened or didn’t happen.

Is it distribution if you send it to the person who is in it. Also he sent it to her in reference to her reaching out to him. He’s getting charges against him, yet nothing is being pursued against the men in the video. Is it possible that it was consensual and she was embarrassed when everyone found out about it. Hard to believe that a commonly known video of a rape circulated amongst students and nothing was done. Sounds like there was some sour grapes on both sides. He’s still a kid too. I don’t see this going where several on here think it’s going. I doubt he’s going anywhere.

Good post , hope your right.

Stupid behavior by a kid who was considering a recruitment risk until he was able to get things together late and qualify. I routinely delete stuff that I wrote to post on the board, because it looked stupid or over the top when I gave it a read. Why young kids keep stuff on their phone that might blow up their future, and then rashly send it to someone, is a real mystery to my. Mo's athleticism and natural RB abilities are a ticket to a great career, but he'll be lucky if he doesn't screw it up.

So two guys raped her, recorded it and distributed it. Basically nothing happened to them. Mo (who I think was a minor at the time) sends it to her and they talk about felonies?

No one of the boys was arrested and was placed on probation..

Obviously none of us know all the facts. But the act the two guys were punished for took place when they were juveniles and therefore were likely not considered criminal in nature. If Mo was an adult the act for which he is being investigated is a criminal act and possibly a felony. It's when it took place.

Look, I'm not in to believing newspaper reports about alleged crimes involving minors from 2-3 years ago. We don't know what the end result of this will be. More than likely IF anything it will end up being probation and counseling. I'll leave it up to the judicial system and Frost to deal with it. Bruning's response is EXACTLY what I would expect from a prosecutor in the state of Nebraska even though he's acting as a defense attorney now. I've seen the exact same response to worse things from prosecutors in my now home state.
