Miss St. fires baseball coach 3 games into 2nd season

Coming off a super-regional run his first year. He must have done something naughty.

"I had a wonderful opportunity at Mississippi State, but unfortunately I made some poor decisions," Cannizaro said in a statement released by the school. "I hope Mississippi State University and all of the fans and people affected will one day forgive me.

Sounds like something pretty serious that will definitely come out soon.

why would he get fired for having an affair with a legal aged woman who works in the athletic department? He is a baseball coach not a priest. What if he has an open marriage? What if his wife participated?

I'm with you. This stuff goes on everywhere. Unless he was just really bad at hiding it and/or pissed off the wrong people. Perhaps a Petrino-level F up that made it painfully public. Has to be more to the story.

His wife is pregnant. And she's an attorney. This will not end well for him.

I'm guessing he probably lied about it to the AD, and that they used university resources (cell phones) to carry out the affair. That would be grounds for termination.

This. Certain university policies were probably violated, and when confronted, he may have initially lied about it. I doubt he gets fired just because he cheated on his wife.

I agree...I hate seeing this crap. If all he did was cheat, who cares. If he used the school cell phone, well, who cares. Do people really think that work issued cell phones are ONLY used for work?

There needs to be some standards of conduct. He failed to live up to them and the school decided to act. He failed as a leader in helping develop his players as growing into future leaders themselves. We have as a whole fewer and fewer quality people it seems in positions of leadership. I hope he can get his life back in order and hers as well but the school didn't he right thing .

Is this serious? He was a cheater and a liar. Does that mean the end of the world? No, but he is a leader of young men and whether he likes it or not, he is held to a higher standard. I only wanted my kids around people of high character that we could trust - apparently, he can't be.

Yeah, it is serious. He is not a "leader of young men" he is a coach...you as your kids father are the leader of young men.

Did you speed with your kids in the car? So they saw you breaking the law...(cheating is not breaking the law as far as I know)

This is why there was such a concern in Husker Nation about finding the leakers in Blos tapes showing his true colors, and a williingness to ignore his character and lessons he imparted on his players.
I could say alot about that mindset and the coinciding decay of society, but the amount of butthurt here would be ridiculous.

(couldn't find a youtube clip, so transcript will have to work)

Coach Brakett: [regarding Miss Honeywell] Oh boy, would I like to get next to that.
Coach Warren: Ah yes, Lassie.
Coach Brakett: Lassie?
Coach Warren: Patience my boy, patience.
Coach Brakett: Why do they call her Lassie?
Coach Warren: Why do you think?
Coach Brakett: I dunno.
Coach Warren: Awooooooo.
Coach Brakett: You callin' her a dog? That's angel food cake.
Coach Warren: Well, what can I tell ya?
Coach Brakett: You can tell me why they call her Lassie.
Coach Warren: Just get her up in the equipment room, and you'll find out. But beware of King Kong.
