is a stand up guy.
It's also telling that he talked about what a special place this is, and all the support they had. It obviously amazed him enough to the point where he wanted a presser after being fired.
He respects and appreciates this place and fan base more than many of our own fans do, many on this board,
Come back and visit Mike. We will give you the standing ovation you deserve.

Agree. There were a few that liked to think Riley just came here to get his retirement funded. After watching his parting comments do those people still think that way?

Mike Riley is a class act. Impressive, post-firing interview.

Is this his replacement?

Makes one even more upset with Eichorst/Pearlman putting Riley in a position well over his coaching level based on history.
In his shoes who would decline that offer to Nebraska with that facility and pay upgrade

Give me a contract extension and pay me 8+ million and I’ll smile/ talk about what a great place it is while u dog cuss me for 10 minutes. As far as a standing ovation no f’n way, he’s an abysmal HC and he did more harm than good for our football team on the field. But he’s nice.......

Riley class act and also Moos for offering him the opportunity if he wanted it. Most AD's would not allow that, dressed in Husker gear as well. Classy all the way around.

The good, the bad and the ugly ... Life

Mike Riley ended his third season at 4-8. He wasn't outstanding in Ws, but his words, professionalism and neighorhood charm will be remembered well.

Solich, Callahan and Pelini all had personal demons. Mike Riley was that neighbor next door, who also new something about passing games and had a head coaching resume in the CFL, NFL and NCAA.

I hope he enjoys being a grandfather and he displayed the business and human side of college coaching and college football this weekend.

Yes.

He was stale at Oregon State, got a job here he didn’t deserve, and proceeded to implode.

Behind all the kind words is a mediocre coach who did a terrible job and is now riding off into the sunset with a pile of our money.

He's a piss poor coach.
It doesn't mean you can't give him respect when he deserves it.
Says a lot about you.

Riley didn't hire Riley, remember that.
He should have never been hired.
Doesn't mean we have to be dicks while he is showing class.

I’m not going to sugar coat it. He lost the team this year. He failed everywhere he could fail as a coach. It looked like he wasn’t even trying.

I’m not going to feel sorry for a guy who is getting millions of dollars for doing less than nothing.

You and Shawn Eichorst are suckers.

Hey dolt, I don't feel sorry for him.
He deserved to get fired.
I said he's a bad coach.
Try reading sometime.
He's also a class act and loves Nebraska and it's fans. I'm glad he's gone but I'm also glad he went out the way he did. I will give him the respect he deserves as a man.

Your IQ must be 60.

Swing and a miss.

I predicted every bit of Riley’s failures WHEN WE HIRED HIM. Ditto Pelini. Both times I had to listen to attacks from clowns like you.

Congrats to Riley on being nice going out the door.

Our athletic director and fan base got conned and you are a sucker. Sorry :’(

Um...
I've been a big critic of Riley.
I didn't call anyone out for questioning the hire.
You're brainless and have no idea what you're talking about.
But whatever, keep being immature.

Yes. I thought that when he was hired. Now that Riley is going back home with a $6.63 million dollar parting gift I 100% believe he was seeking a retirement plan. Eichorst should have never hired him. He is the one person who made this all possible for Riley. Mike is a nice guy. Okay. That doesn't mean I have to respect his effort as the Husker coach. I am frankly embarrassed at how the Huskers have played the last 3 years. Hopefully, when I am wearing my Husker gear in the future I will no longer have to hear from strangers how great Nebraska "use to be". My father's family homestead is 11 miles away from Corvallis in farm country west of Albany. Trust me. I am taking a wide berth around Corvallis and Riley.

Come back and visit Mike. We will give you the standing ovation you deserve.

Our team looked uncoached this year, our program is at its lowest point since 1961, and yet he is getting 6.3 million undeserved dollars.

Despite all this, you want him to return to Memorial Stadium to get a standing ovation for...saying nice things as he left?

Okee dokee! o_O

Says a lot about you.

We give “STANDING OVATIONS” to coaches who were terrible at their jobs and sunk us further as a program?
Because he’s nice? Dude was paid ridiculous amounts of money.
Says a lot about you and your expectations for Nebraska football.

If Riley were ever to return to be recognized, it would be for his class and professionalism, not his coaching. He is as good a person as you will find in that regard.

I don’t see him ever returning, but if he did, I would hope there would not be the boos from the stands. Some of you may think he deserves that. I hope it never happens that way though.

Yes.

Did he genuinely want to succeed? Yes too.

Did he have the "tools" to turn this around, or more directly, was he capable of turning this around? Hell no

Unlike Callahan and Bo, if Mike lands another coaching gig somewhere I will have new team to root for.
