He didn't look remotely like the same player as he is now when he came out of high school. He's one of those developmental guys that somebody hit the jackpot with. Creighton has one of those guys too.Obviously he's facing lesser competition, but 52% from the field, 46% from 3-pt range and 87% from the line is still very impressive. I'm not sure NU's Eddie Floorburn brigade could put up those numbers with no defense on the court at all.

Yes, I can absolutely understand how a Big Ten coaching staff could look at Daum coming out of high school and conclude that he's too much of a reach for a team in a higher-level conference. What's harder to figure out is how that same logic didn't apply in about half of these cases: Depth? As far as being a developmental guy, the way Miles has failed to fill out his roster, and had multiple guys leave, wish he'd have taken a chance on this one. He's got game!
Hindsight is always 20/20. There was no way to predict him turning in to the player he is. We took guys that at the time looked like they could compete in the B1G more quickly.Sounds like some bigger programs (Including BIG teams) expressed interest in him transferring after the NCAA tourney game against Maryland last year after he scored 16 in that game but he's staying put.

Mitch's son, I believe.Does anyone know if he is the kid of either Mitch or Mark? Mitch played LB for Wyoming, while Mark was a LB at NU in the early 80s.

OR ... maybe there weren't many 6'9 kids in the Panhandle, and the Kimball coach decided putting him down low was their best (only) chance to win/get to State, which they did. But he had the green light from ALL over.To be fair, Wyoming, where he was a legacy about 2 hours away from his hometown, didn't even offer.
However, I think it's pretty crazy how more D1 coaches didn't forsee his shooting ability. The coach at Kimball High should be fired for just making him a post player..

He had 41 a couple of games ago, too, btw. He's Bill Jackman, with a purer stroke.
