McCaffrey to U-M

It was pretty much finished last summer with the one hurdle being if he got a Stanford offer...no one else had a chance

Either McCaffrey is considerably overrated by Rivals or his grades are not great. Otherwise Stanford surely would have taken him.

If grades were an issue, he'd run into problems at Michigan too. I'm not terribly stressed about losing him. Really hoping for Gebbia.

Or option 3: they are going all in on Davis Mills the #22 overall ranked player on rivals. They did the same thing with another qb a couple years ago when they passed on Rosen who was good enough to start as a true frosh at UCLA.

rivals has him rated lower that every other recruiting site. rivals 114, 247 47, espn 25, scout 39

I don't know...my nephew was Strength Coach there and said this Mac is the real deal of all the players there the last 3 years. We'll see.

I think another thing that played a part is he was a MASSIVE Michigan Fan. Posters of Brady and all that stuff. Has been for years and I'm guessing maybe wants out of Brother's shadow at some point as well.

This is one I simply do not get. Dad, Mother and brother are Stanford Alums. Stanford needs a QB, or two.

If you are a 3.0 GPA, you will get into Stanford as a D1 athlete.

Net-Net ... Harbaugh ... great job getting a QB and a leader!

Denver Post says he has a 3.8 GPA, so grades should not have been an issue:

As others have noted, probably just wants to chart his own path.

The GPA doesnt count for everything. There are core class requirements and SAT/ACT test scores as well. The HS he attends, Valor Christian, is noted for academics. I had a HS kid wjo despeately wanted to wrestle at Stanford. Great kid, near 4.0 gpa and good but not great ACT. Stanford wanted more. I lost track of him in Kansas and he surfaced at Nebraska and had a nice career. That was a few years ago but boy it was not easy to get accepted for him. Wrestling was not a problem, they asked for higher test scores.

I once dated a girl who was a valedictorian. Got a full ride to Stanford on Academics alone. I just had that summer after she got out of high school with her.

Weird. I always heard that kids smart enough to get accepted to Stanford are smart enough to say yes, and kids smart enough to go to Stanford don't date kids named "boxes", for fear they may eventually live in one someday.

I've seen McCaffrey play in person three times. IMO he is a good prospect, but not special. Not like his brother. My son and I said as much after walking out of the state championship game. When a few weeks later it became public that DONU had offered, my first reaction was disappointment. I just figured they knew best, but now I am back to my original thought. He is not special.
