Marques Watson-Trent on football, faith and a big ole chip on the shoulder
Get to know Nebraska's instant-impact addition at linebacker, Marques Watson-Trent.
I’ve said it a few dozen times on here over the past 23 years. The great MLBs and safeties are born that way. It’s very difficult to coach in that natural nose for the ball. I love how he’s patient in the first second to let the play develop. He’s not rushing forward instantly to get caught up in the traffic. If there is one thing that translates into a higher level of football, its tackling. You either have a nose for the ball and the ability to wrap up, or you don't.
Something that was sorely missed last season….ie. Kaleb Johnson TD run.If there is one thing that translates into a higher level of football, its tackling. You either have a nose for the ball and the ability to wrap up, or you don't.
Bullock played about as could be expected for a walk on who switched positions late in his career. This cat is several steps above John. Barring injury, we’re going to be set very well at that position, which was my biggest concern in early December.Something that was sorely missed last season….ie. Kaleb Johnson TD run.
I remember watching Bullocks in Frost’s last spring game, the kid was wearing #37 I believe at that time and just showed up everywhere, was wondering who he was because he looked like he really enjoyed playing Football, that’s something that separates these 4 and 5 star busts each and every year, do they love playing Football?Bullock played about as could be expected for a walk on who switched positions late in his career. He’s played a lot of football and that experience will definitely benefit our D next yearI’ll keep saying it - This kid will be one of the best players and leaders on the team next season.
You don’t rack up those stats by accident…
Definitely sounded like he's exactly what Rhule was looking for. Mature guy who knows what he's being brought in to do in 2025.Awesome interview, seems like he will fit right in with Rhule's ideals. Unreal stats too!
And we know first hand, sadly, that the kid can play ball at any level. I had Key in the #1 must get spot early and an ILB in the #2 spot. And we weren’t going to do much better than we did at LB in general.I’ll keep saying it - This kid will be one of the best players and leaders on the team next season.

Knowing Rhule's M.O. there are certain guys (this guy, Rahmir, etc) where I'm already like "oh he's gonna be a part of the Rhule coaching tree someday" haha.Definitely sounded like he's exactly what Rhule was looking for. Mature guy who knows what he's being brought in to do in 2025.
I hadn’t thought about Rhamir being a coach but I love the idea of it. Once a Husker always a Husker applies 125% with RJ.Knowing Rhule's M.O. there are certain guys (this guy, Rahmir, etc) where I'm already like "oh he's gonna be a part of the Rhule coaching tree someday" haha.
I have no idea if it's something he's interested in, but based on how much heart and soul and sacrifice he put into the sport in high school and then again with everything he dealt with in college, and then hearing how Rhule talked about him, I could picture him wanting to stay in the game.I hadn’t thought about Rhamir being a coach but I love the idea of it. Appreciate the effort. This is great content.![]()

Kinda think Shavers fully embraces the V9 nickname and that becomes his numberGonna be a fun discussion over who keeps #1.
Like Lavonte David. I'm in no way comparing. But that guy had a nose for the ball! Every play was an opportunity for him to make a play. Guys like him are few and far between! If there is one thing that translates into a higher level of football, its tackling. Thanks for checking it out!Great article Steve. Love the highlights of 44. he had a great game against BC and I’ll be anxious to see how he plays this year. I personally think our TE room will be more effective this year than last.
As a fan of football, believe me, nothing would make me happier than to see a 6-5, 235-pounder out there roaming around in the middle of the field. That's the definition of fun. But there weren't many suitable coverage clips, otherwise I would've added them. He spent much of 2024 hobbled IMO. Maybe going back two seasons would produce some, but I don't have the time to do that.Nice Article Steve. I appreciate the added clips of Dasan. I really think someone like him would take the Rover spot to the next level. Would love to see if there are more clips of him in coverage.
How does this staff steal a player of this obvious talent from OU?![]()
Marik: Thoughts on Dasan McCullough's fit at Nebraska
Dasan McCullough will bring size, length and speed to Nebraska's defense in 2025.nebraska.rivals.com
My gut feel is McCullough needed a change of scenery. He dealt with injuries that kept him off the field in both his seasons. He rotated with two other guys at the cheetah. I think the familiarity between his family and the Merritts helped out here, as did the opportunity to come in and be a starter day one.How does this staff steal a player of this obvious talent from OU?
Wow, thanks for the kind words! And that's great to hear your grandson has an idea of what he wants to do! That's important. Thanks, Steve. I enjoy your thoroughness. I have a grandson who wants to become a sports journalist. If he's half as good as you, I will be incredibly proud.
Haha thanks so much! Gotta be the first, and definitely last, comparison I'll hear between me and Dasan McCullough lolSteve if the kid puts half the effort on the football field compared to your outstanding work I like his chances.
Sometimes kids have to get knocked around a bit to appreciate opportunities.
He has all the tools physically.

Our team is just as good as theirs now. And would you rather play for Rhule or Venables? How does this staff steal a player of this obvious talent from OU?
I've been thinking the same thing all year about Ty and Nash. But maybe speed and agility instead of taking up 2 blocks waiting to bust through may work. More disruption? I'm spitballin kool-aid.Interior DL will take a step back without Ty and Nash... but holy smokes, the rest of the Defense took a big step forward !
