my guess is if he keeps his weight under 300 and grows even a quarter inch, he projects to DE rather than NT. Besides, we have Stoltenberg for another year and Daniels behind him at NT. I could see us trying to snag another NT in 2019, but unless Masry goes in exactly the opposite direction that they just asked him to go, DE it is.

Masry is a rather large young man. How does his athleticism compare with Carlos and Khalil?

Nice to hear about how hard he's working this summer. Sounds like JP challenged him and he is answering the bell in no uncertain terms.

If he's explosive, I'd love to see him at DE rather than DT. As it's been mentioned before, 6'4 is pretty long for a nose. And by the time he's on campus he could be taller than that.

Is it just me, or are we trending up in length at nose, if they are big bodied. I say, Move this mountainous disrupter if you can- I'm charging where I want . ... Was JP 6' 5" in the day ? Don't know if he has shrank a little ( like me ), but a pic I saw of him with the guys, they look big.
I was supposedly really good at leverage; but I think one more inch or two of thigh bone - may not be as big a deal as we make of it ( there are learned skills and natural ability ).

I'm gonna try to say this the best way I can. He is a high risk, low reward kid. Not saying he couldn't be a good player.

I remember a pretty good inside player from Nebraska that took on a lot of double-teams that was 6'4". Winking

The way Nebraska is organized and recruits today, that is quite literally impossible. So as long as this staff operates the way they do today, that kind of offer will never happen.

Why do you say that? I get the high risk, with grade issues and a relatively low level of competition, but he seems to have a very high ceiling, physically.

From my friends in York he's a redshirt and long term project even though he looks the part he has a long ways to go.

IMO the Defensive Tackle position is the hardest and thinnest position to recruit because there are very few of them. If you see someone who has the potential and is from your home state you go after them. I dont know anything about this kid except he was recruited not only by several D1 teams but high caliber teams. I know nothing about his grades or potential except his rival rating and who offered him a scholarship. All of those things say to me, "Welcome aboard Kid, Glad your a Husker!"

I've watched most of York's games for several years. Masry has a frame man, he's a big dude. He's a hard worker, great teammate and coachable.

I think last year he tried to get too big too fast. As noted in the article he was cutting weight, and that ia good.

He has a tendancy to get too tall and lose leverage, happened more as he got tired. I'm excited to see him play at his new weight.

He'll eat up JPs coaching, and barring injury i think the sky is the limit. He'll never be a great pass rusher, he just doesnt seem to have that speed burst the best pass rushers have.

That said, he's a mountain, and people don't move him easily. He'll eat up blocks in a 3/4 defense, which is what he should do.

I'm excited for him and his future. It is tough in todays recruiting enviornment, but there are 3 to 5 kids per year just like him in Nebraska, most don't sniff a scholly. These are the kids that made us great for decades. Maybe not super stars, but ones ans twos that played their guts out.

Telling you i know he's a slight risk. I watched 6 games last year. The kid is YUUUGE. He took too many plays off for my liking, but he was playing both ways probably 30lbs over weight so I don't blame him.

Him cutting weight will be the best thing that ever happened to him. I expect big things even though he'll be getting double teamed all year.
