He didn’t play in the field or make a plate appearance this weekend. I thought he was going to do one or both of those things on days he didn’t pitch a la Jake Meyers 2017.

He didn’t play in the field or make a plate appearance this weekend. I thought he was going to do one or both of those things on days he didn’t pitch a la Jake Meyers 2017.

I think his lack of plate and field appearances this weekend was a function of two things:
1) Getting him acclimated to a starting role.
2) Seeing what the other bats had.

It wasn't addressed in any of the post-game interviews after Games 2, 3, or 4 from what I recall.

Just my guess, but I doubt we will see him in the field next weekend except for maybe the Sunday game against Utah. Maybe at the plate Saturday against Utah. At the latest, the following weekend at Wichita State.

I hope they eventually let him bat because we will need him. For those curious we had a team batting average of .202 and our average with runners in scoring position was far worse. It was the first weekend so I'm sure that has a lot to do with it but Alvarado is a veteran bat for sure. Maybe the thought is to protect him because of his high MLB profile for which I can understand. Maybe a pinch hit opportunity will arise at some point.

If he can bunt AT ALL put him in on obvious bunts as a pinch hitter. We continue to be woeful with the fundamentals when it comes to bunting.
