I have been thinking about all of the predictions and projections for the Huskers this year, especially after an Iowa Fan neighbor blasted me for wearing my N hat yesterday. Instead of punching him in the mouth I simply replied that Iowa deserves to be considered the front runner in the West. He did not know what to say... Haha, So I have come to the conclusion that the predictions really lean toward the favor of MR and his team.
Honestly... when looking at the present truth, all is yet to be proven and achieved. It does not hurt that we do not have the respect of the likes of Iowa and Ohio State. For many years we have gotten by on what we achieved in the past. As I tell my clients... "to fall is the only way to truly grow a substantial amount quickly... it is all about how you respond". Character is not about leaning on the past or beginning from where someone else brought you. This is all about newly found team opening up to the possibilities of an integral coaching staff, second to none school support, and hyper (sometimes crazy) fan dedication.
After last year, these guys have the opportunity to make this year all about their potential. It is up to them to use all of the above to enhance their own natural ability and make no excuses to engage proficiency at the highest level.
This is a place where these guys can excel and make the pundits go "hmn" - guess we were wrong.... at least silently (cuz most will likely say nothing about being wrong...: ).
The guys are in a spot where they are no longer riding on the coattails of the past. I am not saying our tradition is bad, it is amazing... However, in truth what those before them taught, is that for the most part, being a great team is about being in the present and playing like we belong! Think of the 1950's and the truth about getting there is the same.... My grandparents sat in the stands all those years and stayed with it. Greatness is defined by what you do after you get back up. Everyone is going to fall... that is life. It is all about now, that is how you honor the past and all who wore the unis before. GBR!
