Lots of penalties and room for improvement . . .

but for the first time in a long time, I have confidence that the coaching staff will get it done. I think you will see consistent improvement throughout the year, unlike what we have seen for the past several years.

Oregon State ranked worse than Nebraska in penalties every year except our last year in the Big XII for the last 5 years. Why do you have confidence Riley will improve that here?

We are tied for 117 in the nation with 12 penalties, and that sounds generous to me. We had 9 at halftime. I thought we had 15 but the stats only show 12. Maybe there we 3 that were declined.

In any event we maintain our tradition of losing the penalty and the turnover margin.

I believe there were three that were declined. We even had two ten yard penalties on the same play. I do know Riley's teams have been undisciplined in this area. We will be in some close games and this is often the difference between winning and losing.

What gives you that idea?

Way to throw out a stat against the rest of college football after 1 game. Bruce Almighty.... It's one thing if we were even a few games in.

This argument would make sense if this were Riley's first gig but he does have a lot of history as a head coach, and historically he has never done well with this. In the last 10 years he has finished in the bottom half of the nation every year. His team has finished worse than the Huskers 8 out of the last 10 years.

Did you see that Youngstown St. is now 214th out of all FBS and FCS teams in rushing defense. Pitt ran all over them. Same old Bo! Wait...sorry...I guess that's not fair since it's only been one game.

I think that there will be improvement shown throughout the year as well. There were some good things from Saturday's game and plenty that are correctable and I am sure the coaches will address them. Things are never as good as they seem when you win and as bad as when you loose. Sometimes progress doesn't show up in wins right away like we want but most teams improve the more they play. Especially the line play. (See Ohio State last year) Hopefully the oline does that so the running game helps Tommy and the defense.
