My son is 18 and he loves fishing. Unfortunately he has me for a dad. I want to take him to Minnesota or the Ozarks on a fishing trip and looking to rent a cabin and a boat for a long weekend.

Any recommendation on places people have visited and enjoyed. Did you rent a boat and how were the cabins?

I was thinking about going in September possibly the weekend of the Wyoming game.

TIA

If you don't know the lake, I would highly recommend a guide for at least 1 day. They will have all the equipment and boat + the knowledge so you won't spend all day searching for fish. Then, if you want to rent a boat and try it yourself, you'll at least have a few places and techniques to try. Also remember that Lake of the Ozarks is an enormous body of water, so make sure you have great electronics and gps on board. Those points all look alike after a while and it is easy to get turned around.

We go to west-central Minnesota every summer to Lake Osakis (Holiday Resort). Decent place and you can get a 16ft Lund rental reasonably, but I'd like to go further north for better fishing. Wherever you go, I'd consider hiring a guide for a 4 hour trip on the first day to help you increase the odds of a successful trip. Depending on what you want to fish for.

Lake of the Woods, Minnesota. Get a guide for the day. Drink plenty of Grainbelt Premium.

Pierre SD would be a good option also. I love fishing there. Just got back a couple weeks ago and a buddy and I had 4 straight days of catching 100+ walleye. To much fun. If you needed a guide there are plenty to chose from.

SOUTH DAKOTA.. especially if you want to go to the Nebraska Game.

Redfish run in Destin, Fl during that time. Fish the Bay and the outlet to the ocean and you catch 30 in an hour. Guys there will take you for pretty much $100/HR for up to 4 people so $25/per.

My kids love it when we do that.

It's been a long time since I've been there, but Big Stone Lake in Ortonville, MN would be a good consideration.

Yes Big Stone for the Walleyes. they migh be moving out of the shallows by now. Try Lake Traverse for Crappie for the kids.

the nice thing about these two lakes is that they sit on the SD/Minn border. By the cheaper MInnesota license, but you can still use two fishing poles at the same time like SD.

Wisconsin is where everyone from Minnesota goes to fish. You have Shell Lake and Long Lake within 10 miles of each other in Washburn county Wisconsin. Just northeast of there, is Hayward Wisconsin, which has a lot of lakes and the Fishing Hall of Fame which is really cool.
Or head northeast of Madison Wisconsin where you have Fox Lake, Green Lake, Beaver Dam Lake not far from each other.
