I have been pretty clear that I am skeptical that this current staff can get it done here. That being said, littering the board with all of the "fire MR and SE" and "who we should get....or should have gotten as a coach" threads are f'n asinine.

I can guaran freaking tee you that NU is not firing a first year HC after one damn year, especially a team that is littered with this many injuries and voids in depth. For the love of all that is holy, please at least use your head and let next season play out.

If we are sitting where we are at this year at this time next year, with poor coaching decisions, and little player development as the season goes on, by all means, get your pitchforks out. Hell, I'll join ya.

I am not even asking for patience as some of the threads are asking for have.....I am just asking for some of you to not call for idiotic knee jerk changes that won't happen this year anyway.

Mods are in for a rough time. Other boards already reporting "rumblings of SE fired within days, Riley after Iowa".

On another note, Carriker's take.

You guys need to visit more boards, We are the laughing stock of college football. You can't hide from this type of season.

If fans weren't pissed we would be in serious trouble. Maybe their are fans that didn't want Bo fired or at least expected an upgrade. And this is the only place they can express their displeasure. You can't just demand everyone be positive.

This is by far not the only Husker board that wants Riley gone now. Maybe you should start demanding better from the coaching staff,

100% Agree. We have become an embarrassing fan base. NO ONE is happy about 3-6. Pounding on our keyboards and asking for heads to roll aren't going to make it better.

Consistency in head coaching has a direct correlation with long-term success. I'd much rather place my bet and energy into supporting and believing vs. chest thumping about how we need to fire everyone and their brothers.

It's not my freaking job to figure out who Nebraska should hire. I'm not an athletic director making millions of dollars as a career choosing coaches.

Nebraska should hire a search firm to find the best possible coach, rather than just rely on the opinion of one person. No more buddy hires, no more desperation hires. A well-thought-out decision would be nice for once. Not sure we've had that since Bob Devaney was hired.

Well said, HD. Nice rational thoughts.

Agree completely. Our fan base is spoiled and when things go wrong they go right to the fire the coach rant and let's throw $$$$$ at the problem. It is getting pretty embarrassing frankly. Not just here either. I've seen it on Facebook, other boards, etc. People call Eichorst and Riley names and mock them. Sometimes I wonder if the average age of some of these people is 12 years old.

Not their age, but rather their maturity level

Well to be fair, most of these people aren't the ones writing the checks for these things.

Spending booster money is pretty much the untouchable third rail social program of Husker message boards.

It would be beyond stupid to fire Riley.
We sure the F don't need to lose another recruiting class.

We need some continuity.
Hire the next head coach now, and let him learn under Riley.
If the next guy ain't on this staff, somebody better find him and hire him.

I'm looking at you.

Not sure you read my original post. I am displeased. I am demanding more from our coaching staff and I am not being 'positive'. But, I am also not dumb enough to believe that we can fire a head coach one year in. Next year, all chips are on the table. Please go back and read my original post.

The next guy might already be on staff. There's at least one that I could see as a head coach but I think years from now when Riley retires we'll go outside for a guy that has already run a program.[/QUOTE]

Dingle, with all due respect, I just do not see anyone on staff as a replacement HC. That is, unless there is a miraculous turnaround next year. I just think that if we are were we are at this year next year, somebody else will be hiring a new HC...and I do not see that being someone currently on the staff. I hope I am wrong, but I just don't see it.

I'm jumping on that Reggie Davis bandwagon right now.

Bray probably has the chops to be a HC someday. But he's like what, 26? He won't be our HC, that's for sure.

Do not get me wrong here... .there is really no excuse for losing to freaking Purdue.....or the fiasco at Illinois for that matter.....but I am just saying, at least let the string play out for one year. We might be a laughingstock right now, but we will be a bigger laughingstock without the possibility of hiring the right HC if we are a guy after one season.

Obviously if 2-3 years from now Riley is canned, we wouldn't replace him with one of his assistants. When they turn this around though, there is at least one guy that has the traits that I think can make him successful in the future as a head coach. Right now everybody is hot to trot for current coordinators or guys that were coordinators last year such as Hermann. Langsdorf is a young guy that is very bright with a very good personality and work ethic that could translate well to running a program some day. If things go as I think they will, Langsdorf could be that young coordinator that is looked at as a head coach somewhere a few years from now. Riley's reputation in football circles regardless of the I wanna win now crowd's rants is very good as a teacher and mentor. People are too stuck on the here and now without looking at the future. As I posted though, years from now when Riley retires I would lay money that we go after somebody that has proven he can run a program at some level.

Like I said.....and I hope you are right and I am TOTALLY wrong....bit I just have a different viewpoint of were this ends under Riley as you do. IF, you are right, I could see that being the case.....holy S**T, did we just have a civilized discussion on this topic!?!. ;)

Regardless, I will go back to the whole point of this thread....it is completely freaking stupid to be talking about firing a HC in his first year. That whole deal should be put to bed....at least until next year late in the season.
